The fact that Ford apparently sent this letter and asked Feinstein to keep her name confidential could be a point in her defense, since this would seem to mean that she never expected it to become front-page news.

As of now, has Ford even made a verbal or written statement other than her original letter making any allegation against Kavanaugh? I could be wrong, but I don't believe I've seen any reference to one.

This is why Ford wants Kavanaugh to testify first. She wants him to defend himself against an allegation that has been made in such a half-assed and convoluted way -- effectively "defaming" HIMSELF in the process -- at which point she could simply refuse to testify at all.
