WASHINGTON (AP) Abandoning his previous restraint, President Donald Trump challenged by name the woman accusing his Supreme Court nominee of sexual assault on Friday, declaring that if the alleged attack was so terrible she would have reported it to law enforcement.
Trumps change in tone and apparent shift in tactics came as Christine Blasey Fords lawyers negotiate with the Senate Judiciary Committee on the terms for her possible testimony next week in a dramatic showdown over her accusation that threatens Judge Brett Kavanaughs confirmation.
Trump tweeted: I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!
The president previously had avoided naming Ford or plainly casting doubt on her account. Ford alleges Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her more than 30 years ago when they were teenagers. Kavanaugh has denied the allegation.

His actions and temperament are unlike any President ever...
I understand what you’re saying...It’s just that I haven’t seen anything he’s said that failed yet...
True.
Outstanding points all! The media doesn’t recognize Trump’s sarcasm. They don’t want to, of course, because if they did, they’d have nothing to distort and contort into fake news.
What exactly in President Trump’s “tweet” would give the republicans a reason to support further delays....
The dems are experts at manufacturing crisis, I agree with that. As for the sarcasm thing, I will take your word for it. But it is rather hard to get that from a tweet.
Do you see the sarcasm where he tweeted that if she wants the FBI to investigate now, why didn’t she ask the FBI to investigate 36 years ago????
Now THAT is sarcasm.....
The allegations only started a little more than a week ago. The ball is in the Senate's court per the Constitution. Trump can't usurp that authority. No doubt, he was assured by McConnell that all was under control. Maybe it is. But the longer it goes on, the greater the opportunity for that dynamic to change.
This is all political theater. The Dems know exactly how they will vote as do the vast majority of Reps. The Dems need to persuade two Rep senators to vote against Kavanaugh. It is that simple. Will the Reps stand together or will a few frightened rabbits defect? Everyone knows that Kavanaugh is qualified.
Where has the focus been on Ford's credibility? She is the one making the unsubstantiated allegations at the very last minute. That is the purpose of Trump's sarcastic tweet.
36 years ago strains credulity. That indicates they had to dig really deep because they could not find anyone fresher (staffers, lawclerks, his kid’s friends’ moms. neighbors, etc.) during the past three decades willing to lie for the democrat party.
Then they canvassed his law school and college associations dating back 25-30 years- still, no takers.
Final search 36-40 years back. Since Kav, attended an all boys’ school, that made the smear search even tougher. Finally they located a leftist gal from a nearby girl’s school willing to sell her soul (She just cashed in on $209,000 from GoFundMe.) One has to wonder about any other reimbursements or perks Blasely is destined to collect.
She now has some fame and fortune, but happiness isn’t part of the package when you deal with the devil.
I disagree. Mainly because I don’t believe Ford should have been given a chance to enter the ring in the first place. You and I think Ford and her lawyers have made asses of themselves. But that is not really what matters to waffling Republicans. What matters to them is perceived threats to their political future. They are after all politicians.
You must have noticed how Ford’s allegations gained momentum. When do you think it is easier to push back against a moving object? To leave the boxing ring and use another analogy I think Kavanaugh’s supporters including Trump should have blocked that momentum from the start. Trump is smart and knows the reason why this country needs a border wall. Well we also need a wall between the manipulations of people like Ford and confirmation hearings for USCC. Sure he would have been called a bully by the press. So what? Let him be the one to set the terms of the debate. Including nipping it in the bud.
Well the obvious answer is because 36 years ago she did not have Katz as a lawyer.
In my opinion, the sarcasm is that the FBI doesn’t investigate high school boob groping...
if they did, most every guy I know would be under investigation....
So far Ford and her Attorney are controlling this circus by their demands. To date there’s no vote. Dem-rats are masters at playing the sex games like a game of Pool and thus far they’ve sunk every ball.
I agree that she has made non credible allegations from the start. But unfortunately not everyone is willing to address the holes in her story or her motivations. We get to see a bigger picture because we have sources outside of the MSM. That is all too uncommon these days. I listened to a report the other day where the wording was such that Kavanaugh’s guilt was simply taken for granted. That type of BS is what many people are fed, day after day. And yes that does matter to politicians who won’t even say boo to a goose let alone say “Where is your proof” to squirrely claims of sexual assault by a politically motivated well funded woman and her entourage.
SO I sure hope two senators do not cut and run. And I want things to proceed as they should without further delay. Still I think the President made a mistake with this tweet.
And the FBI would have a lot more recruits.
This should never have gone this far...it’s obvious it’s a political hit.
Heck I can remember every guy that ‘tried’ to fool around and where as a teenager.....but then I suppose if one was with a lot of fellows they might forget who, where and when let alone what happened.
Something I have said on many occasions; the only poll that matters happens on November 6.
But we were talking about Kavanaugh and whether most people believe him or not. In the grand cosmic scheme of things it doesn't matter if everyone believes him or if nobody believes him. He's qualified for the court and I think he's going to be confirmed. These allegations will have no more impact on his time on the bench than Anita Hill's accusations have had on Clarence Thomas.
The President is being perfectly civil, here.
