WASHINGTON (AP) — Abandoning his previous restraint, President Donald Trump challenged by name the woman accusing his Supreme Court nominee of sexual assault on Friday, declaring that if the alleged attack was so terrible she would have reported it to law enforcement.
Trump’s change in tone — and apparent shift in tactics — came as Christine Blasey Ford’s lawyers negotiate with the Senate Judiciary Committee on the terms for her possible testimony next week in a dramatic showdown over her accusation that threatens Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
Trump tweeted: “I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!”
The president previously had avoided naming Ford or plainly casting doubt on her account. Ford alleges Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her more than 30 years ago when they were teenagers. Kavanaugh has denied the allegation.

This is far from a slam dunk. The polls, valid or not, support the withdrawal of Kavanaugh's nomination. As public support for Ford grows, the more pressure is placed on the Reps who are scared of their own shadows. They would rather appease the mob than stand on principle.
What further concessions will Grassley make to accommodate Ford? This will be the true indicator of where this is going. In the meantime, the Dems are delaying matters in hopes that some more women will come forward alleging similar charges. What happens then?

And you forget that the last 96hrs have shown that the voting public is really riled up and itching for a political bloodbath on this issue. The left raised it as a twofer - to knock out K and to distract from russiagate. It was a stupid error because they are bringing Armageddon on the entire political class that colludes with the new Bolsheviks.
I agree. Right or not, he should have avoided commenting on this. Trump has said several times this week that its up to the senate so he should be consistent and stick with that narrative, at least publicly. This just elevates her charges into the presidential realm and gives her more publicity. Bad move in my opinion.

President Trump's tweet failed to be clever, was poorly timed, and not necessary. He was doing just fine. It will quickly be forgotten.
Kavanaugh's confirmation rests solely with Senate Republicans and will succeed or fail in their hands.

Did I suggest that? No. The president should not hand those who oppose Kavanaugh or those who are undecided ANY REASON TO ADD CREDENCE TO FORD’S ALLEGATIONS. Sexual assault victims often do not report being assaulted to the police. Especially teens. So if he implies she must be lying (which I personally think is the case) because she did not reply he gives her supporters to answer “She was behaving like many victims of sexual assault which means she could very well be telling the truth.” You don’t hand the enemy a way to attack you.
He could have tweeted about lack of evidence including any police reports without ever mentioning the severity or non-severity of the alleged attack.
Oh she is lying. If anything happened it sure did not involve Kavanaugh. I just think Trump very well could have put way too much attention on her (soon to be a martyr to evil men) and away from why Kavanaugh should be confirmed.

How informed is the general public on the issue? The Dems are already claiming that Ford is telling the truth. Hollywood put out a video supporting her. Sen Whitehouse is already saying that they will move to impeach Kavanaugh if he is confirmed and will launch an investigation of him. The Dems are making a big deal out of the fact that 11 old GOP white men on the committee will be interviewing her. Ford is the brave martyr going against the patriarchy.
Trump has over 50 million followers on twitter. He understands that the public is moving against Kavanaugh's confirmation. The court of public opinion is very relevant to many in the GOP who are fearful that they will be killed by the women's vote in the midterms. Hence, there is virtually no one on our side going after FORD for her lack of specificity and clearly partisan background. Will any of the Rep members of the Judiciary Committee have the stones to go after her?
The Dems will stick together on the vote now that this allegation has provided them cover to vote no on Kavanaugh. Just two Reps need to be turned to stop Kavanaugh.
She hasn’t filed a complaint yet. There is only a letter claiming this happened.
