A man with a concealed carry gun license stepped from his car on Thursday and shot the suspected shooter of a Cicero police officer.
Good for him.
Had the good Samaritan not joined the gun battle, the Cicero cop might not be alive today, and the accused shooter might have gotten away.
EDITORIAL
We remain unconvinced, all the same, that concealed carry is good for Chicago or Illinois. There is no convincing evidence just the occasional anecdote that permitting people to walk around with concealed guns detours crime. There is credible evidence, on the contrary, that concealed carry leads in the long run to more crime.
Hang your argument on a single anecdote, and you can defend almost anything.
Last June, the Sun-Times reported that a concealed carry permit holder scared off a home invader suspect in Riverside. Terrific!
We also reported in June that a concealed carry license holder had shot an attempted armed robber in South Chicago. Ok!

The John Hopkins study they cite is likely one John Lott and others have likely taken apart. Using the Sun-Times’ logic (or lack thereof), places like Vermont and Maine must have been very violent to begin with and even more so by now.
Ah yes, Chicago, aka, communist Mayberry. There are none so blind as those who just will not see.
Will likely find that this is a Soros purchased study.
“We remain unconvinced,” should read “We remain unwilling yo be convinced...”
Kind of funny since they will also use the phrase, “If it saves even one life....” as an argument to take guns away....I guess they are part of the “Cops’ lives don’t matter” crowd.....
If it saves just one life..........
Where have I heard that before?
And apparently concealed dictionaries don't deter editors from missing obvious linguistic failures.
That aside, Mr. John Lott would like to have a chat with this author.
The actual true thought in the author's head, police be damned.
Guns is evil.
Guns is evil.
Guns is evil.
Repeat as often as necessary.
1- It is "deter" not "detour"
2- The point of Concealed Carry is not to deter crime (that is a secondary effect), it is for protection.
There is credible evidence, on the contrary, that concealed carry leads in the long run to more crime.
Horse Hockey. Unless the carrier is a criminal, the claim is demonstrably false.
We can’t allow honest residents of Chicago to defend themselves against homicidal gang bangers.
What a moron.
“that permitting people to walk around with concealed guns detours crime”
Actually, if the concealed weapon permit holder can have the perp ‘detoured’ to the hospital or better yet the grave yard,
then there can be a happy ending!
The lies of the Rats about 2nd Amendment has red pilled more people than anything else, I do believe. As much as I hate them for doing it i love the result.
--obviously, if any of the 11 out of 265,000 were unjustified we'd have heard about it--and in the meantime Chicago's "minority " community racks up that many every couple of weeks---virtually all by persons unqualified to obtain concealed weapons permits--
Ah, yes ... I can remember the last time that I waived a gun around.
Don't these news companies have editors anymore?
The Sun Times has been communist as far back as I can remember. It has been on the verge of folding for a couple of years now. Hardly any better then the weekly grocery store flyer.
American citizens dont need to justify anything about their divinely- bestowed rights/ liberties. And certainly not to the Chicago news media.
Yes, and they are just as ignorant as the "reporters" they "correct".
