Prominent conservative evangelical leader Pat Robertson has asked his followers to join in on prayer to cast a "shield of protection" ahead of Hurricane Florence.
In a video shared online by Right Wing Watch, the televangelist cited a passage from the bible in which Jesus commanded the wind and water on the Sea of Galilee to "be still."
While delivering remarks in Virginia, which is home to his Christian Broadcasting Network and where thousands are bracing for Florence's arrival, Robertson asked if his followers could invoke the same words from the passage to accomplish a similar result "if we are together with one accord."
Robertson then asked his congregation to "put a hand out toward the Atlantic" and to repeat after him.
"In the name of Jesus, you Hurricane Florence, we speak to you in the name of Jesus, and we command the storm to cease its forward motion and go harmlessly into the Atlantic," Robertson said.
"Go up north away from land and veer off in the name of Jesus. We declare in the name of the lord that you shall go no farther, you shall do no damage in this area," the evangelical leader continued.
He went on to declare a "shield of protection" over parts where "innocent people" are bracing for the hurricane, which is already reportedly packing winds of up to 140 mph, according to CNN.
"In Jesus' holy name, be out to sea!" Robertson continued.
He also said that the "shield" has worked in the against previous hurricanes.
"It's almost hilarious to see them try," he said. "They try to get in and they can't, and then they go north and they turn around, try to come back in. They can't do it."

Trump!
Rather than being on God’s side, you’d want Him to be on your side.
He claimed to have diverted a hurricane away from Va. Beach (his HQ) years ago but it hit New England instead, gee thanks.
The Church of Climate Change (Rev Al Gore) probably said it was caused by us evil humans.Hope it doesn’t hit John Edwards’ palatial estate...
WHDH-TV meteoroligist Jeremy Reiner said steeeing currents are bringing it to the Carolinas, etc...warm water this year...instead of bringing it north or out to sea.
Some hurricanes or the remnants of them bring winds to the east of the eye and heavy rain to the west.Irene hit Vermont hard...isolated towns, washed out roads, covered bridges sucked away by swollen creeks.
Just like those folks who say God saved them during a tornado and several houses down wiped out a family. God doesn’t play God.
Just go stand on the shore and blow at it.
nothing wrong with preparation and prayer. nothing at all.
With all respect to Pat Robertson (he does claim to be my brother in Christ) - he should just shut his yap. I recall a number of years ago where he rather strongly asserted that a hurricane that was headed towards Orlando was God’s judgement on Disneyworld for their embracing (sic) of homosexual values.
Of course, he backed down after there was a lot of opposing media.
I am all on board with the Word of God in denouncing homosexuality being of the devil, an abomination and gross perversion (see Book of Romans, Chapter 1 for what God says).
Anyway, the shallow Christianity and playing to the cameras in which Mr. Robertson specializes is just shameful. I guess he has his followers and knows how to play to them.
Is it? Prayer is for serious stuff. Not doing well on an exam or hoping the Browns will finally win a game.
I’m in NC Raleigh area and any help in averting this storm is AOKAY with me:-)
No kidding. God isn’t going to respond to incantations that create some magic protective shield. Sheesh.
I never thought of product placement in the Bible until I read “Jesus and the disciples were in one accord”.
[The bible plainly states that when the spirit arrived, miracles , tongues, etc would pass away.
That’s verse 8 (sorta).
Verse 10:
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

My own $0.02 is that which is perfect is come is the rule and reign of Christ on Earth (Millennium) and on to eternity. YMMV
Actually he as well his often co-host Terry Meeuwsen, look like they age well, and as aside from some statements from Robertson that the media latches on to (not that I agree with all he says either), the 700 club is quite well done, and a refreshing news program in stark contrast from the normal media.
And the testimonies video page has many quality videos, unsurpassed by any other like it in quality. Glory to God in Christ.
So; do you BELIEVE these things or merely give them lip service?
Which ones will be heard and acted upon?
What else is there to 'command'?
