Hurricane Florence is a rapidly strengthening major storm with sustained 130 mph winds as it heads toward a potentially devastating landfall in the Southeast U.S. later this week, already prompting evacuation orders on the North Carolina coast.
The National Hurricane Center is warning of “life-threatening” storm surge in the Carolinas and Virginia, as well as “a prolonged and exceptionally heavy rainfall event” in the Southeast and mid-Atlantic.

With every year I am here, sadly I am less and less surprised at the snarky smugness of some here of FR towards the hardship of others.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all who either live on the eastern seaboard or have loved ones living there.
Relatives were stationed at Marine Air Station Cherry Point when Bertha and Fran came through in the same season. Left the place looking like an apocalypse movie for quite a while.
Might be a good time to head up to high ground for a few days.

Actually, I would trust my life to the President of his school. So yes, I’ve gotten about 1/2 a dozen emails from him detailing the procedures and preparations they have in place. They are well inland - almost 150 miles from the coast, so hopefully the impact will be limited to loss of power and lots of rain. I think short of him leaving today or tomorrow and it will be more dangerous for him to drive home. The interstates will be jammed at that point.

I know. And I’m not here that long by comparison. I lurked for a long time before I “came out”. But it still surprises me how distrustful we can be of “newbs” and how rude we can be to ourselves.
I know from past lives on the “World Wide Web” that the anonymity of sitting behind a keyboard makes people braver than they would be in a face to face setting. I always try to behave as though I’m talking to you as a guest in your living room. If that doesn’t work, I detach from the discussion.
I have to many real issues in my life to tangle with. I don’t have time for the cosmetic ones.
I like your idea of acting on the keyboard as if the person was seated across from you in living room. Good advice!

MRF/GFS and Navy Models both show a stall at the coast.
ECMWF shows is coming inland and breaking up.

Dewey and down to the inlet always gets hit hard with flooding.
If the storm stalls at the coast, it could potentially push lots of water up the bay. Essentially becoming a Noreaster for us.
I am a first responder here and this area will be on my watch list for just that.

That said, the state has done a lot of work on the dunes and pumping sand back in to the shore. Hopefully the boardwalk will survive this time.
