Sunday, Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), the GOP Florida gubernatorial nominee, discussed his Democratic opponent Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum and predicted the far-left candidate for governor would turn the Sunshine State into Venezuela if elected.
This Andrew Gillum, he is on the far-left socialist fringe. Hes a Bernie Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez-type of candidate. He wants to raise taxes in Florida 40 percent, he wants a single-payer healthcare system in Florida, which would bankrupt the state, he wants to abolish ICE and doesnt believe in doing any type of immigration enforcement, DeSantis told New York AM 970 radio The Cats Roundtable host John Catsimatidis.
DeSantis told Catsimatidis that Gillum would make Florida uncompetitive and repel investment if he raised taxes.

Actually, there’s a substantial percentage of the American population that wants to turn the nation into Venezuela.
Agree. DeSantis needs to pull some of the Ex-pat Venezuelans on stage with him at his rallies. Many live in South Florida.
They will tell the rest of the democrat fools what socialism / communism is really like and how they gave up everything to escape Venezuela’s socialism.

Pray for Venezuela. Some of their citizens have been reduced to eating spoiled meat out of desperation.
I have no dog in that fight. I know very few people from Venezuela and will probably never travel there, but no Human Being should live that way. It’s a worse tragedy knowing how prosperous that country used to be until Chavez begin to nationalize most of the private industries, as with oil production. A Government openly run on bribes, cronyism and flexible standards will often ruin what it’s supposed to improve. Hopefully, Maduro will soon be flushed out of office.
I voted for DeSantis in primary and will in general. Hes awesome!!! Not sure how Gillum is going to raise taxes in Florida by 40 percent. We dont have a state tax. Property taxes are local. Sounds like quite a difficult task for Gillum to accomplish.
Scott will get DeSantis across the line. Thank God for future senator Scott!!!!
Floridians, stock up on toilet paper.
I like this approach, but BE SPECIFIC. Inform voters that Obama was a big fan of Maduro and Chaves because they implemented the "Progressive" policies that Democrats support, and want to bring here, that would make us into Venezuela.
Chaves implemented:
wealth redistribution through "land reform" (take land from the rich, give some of it to the poor)... overspent on social programs... tripled their budget deficits... prices controls (especially who pays what for food)... wage controls (like minimum wage increases)... government projects and missions (as opposed to private sectors creating businesses and jobs)... government housing (Habitat Mission)... government grocery store (Mission Mercal)... urban agriculture programs... nationalize several industries (construction, phone, electricity, steel, rice processing, coffee processing, and some major banks)... and, of course, rising tax rates.
Maduro economic policies:
guaranteed healthcare as both a human and constitutional right... Government control of healthcare supplies (within months, 88% were undersupplied)... restricts access to the US dollar (causing many international firms to stop doing businesses in Venezuela)... Nationalized Pepsi and Nestle factories and warehouses, for government redistribution centers... raised gas prices during the economic collapse...
It reads like a Nancy Pelosi speech or an Obama victory rally.
Governor Scott doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He brought his corporate cost-cutting habit with him to Tallahassee.
It is why DeSantis can say, “We have more people in Florida than the state of New York, population-wise now, and yet, our budget for the state is roughly half the budget for New York state.”
Yuge.
Then what is their end game?
With all the history world wide bearing out the failures of the progressive, Marxist socialist theory there is only one conclusion. They want to destroy all free economies of merit. And if they claim they do not want to destroy free market economies, then they are nothing more than Facists.
I dont think Gillum can beat DeSantis. DeSantis is right in the middle of the FL electorate. Gillum is well to the left even of the Dem center.
But you bring up a good point. Two good GOP candidates are going to push up the GOP vote. This wont be a blue wave in FL I dont think.
“...They want to destroy all free economies of merit. And if they claim they do not want to destroy free market economies, then they are nothing more than Facists...”
Power and control is all they are and all they want. They care about NOTHING else. They pursue that end at any cost they can get away with. So far, they have been pretty lucky in that regard.
DeSantis has chosen his LT Governor (a nearly useless office in FL) running mate, outgoing State Rep. Jeanette Nuzez, a close ally of Marco Rubio, who convinced her to take the job after she begged off. Allegedly she tweeted against Trump back before the Florida primary with silly allegations but the tweet must have been deleted.
Puerto Rican Orlando-area Rep. Bob Cortes was considered a strong contender but the party feared losing his State House seat if he had vacated that race.
Her tweet against Trump was horrid (which I won’t repeat here). However, her FL legislature ACU rating is sky-high. Still, that tweet... :-\
I saw the Tweet, and it indeed was terrible. But it was during the primaries, a time in which advocates for their preferred candidates often lobbed uproarious accusations against other Republicans running for president, so one shouldn’t take the Tweet at face value. Certainly Congressman DeSantis doesn’t think that statements made in the heat of battle should serve as a disqualification.
Glad to hear that, everyone keeps calling her a "moderate". I guess they mean in temperament, she is well liked.
I WTFed at the tweet's "Anti-Israel" allegation. But of course during the primaries I was heavily against Trump myself and shared a couple of her criticisms. I don't view it as a big deal, or much of a deal at all really.
LT seems to be pretty much a dead end job in FL. We're talking 19th Century Vice President.
She has a campaign site for a State Senate run in district 39 which I don't think is even up this year. Weird. It's still online.
And Trump himself of course enraged in some vigorous attacks on his primary opponents. War is war and that war is over.
Gillum BTW has chosen an also-ran from the rat Gov primary as his running mate, rich White guy Chris King. King got 2.5%, 5th place.
King is a religious left fanatic who believes Jesus was a hippy who wants him to push for open borders and weed.
