John McCain, the longtime senator and 2008 GOP presidential candidate who refused to leave fellow prisoners of war behind to escape years of torture in Vietnam, and whose maverick streak as Arizonas senior statesman at times frustrated fellow Republicans and confounded President Donald Trump, has died, his family confirmed in a statement Saturday.
He was 81and had been diagnosed with brain cancer in July 2017.
McCain had decided to discontinue medical treatment for the glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, his family announced on Aug. 24. He had surpassed expectations for his survival, but "the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict," the statement said.

Agreed.
I knew it was soon because that’s how Barbara Bush died just days after they announced she had canceled her care.
That put a smile on my face, especially the one's of us that have been here for awhile. I have been a Freeper since February of 1998 and watched ALL the Crap he has pulled on this Country all this time.
Well I'll just leave it at that!
That's all I pray for the people that I struggle daily not to hate. We will all die and Judgement will be passed.
.... I have a feeling that so called “Cancer Treatment” that was cut off yesterday was actually “Life Support!”
Probably a couple months ago...on life support...
For the first time in years...I had to turn Justice with Judge Jeanine OFF...I’m sure the network told her what the topic of her show would be tonight...
So went back to watching Pittsburgh Pirates baseball...
This coverage of McCain will be non stop until his funeral...but I’m sure that is all planned out ...
no other comment...
Sorry...collaborator,not "useful idiot".
I suspect also the morphine administered was increased.
It happens a lot more than people think.
I will reframe from saying how I really feel about this man.
However, we need that Senate vote back.
And it’s coming back very shortly.
As a Vietnam veteran, I will never criticize his service as a naval aviator, which included 23 combat missions over Vietnam. His congressional record was another matter. He was a disaster for the GOP and the country.
In our part of the Colorado river, with the trout and the stripers, they never got to hatch.. The one season they did not stock trout the Caddis fly emerged and it was pretty devastating for several years. We have more fish in the water now than we have ever had and it is finally starting to get under control. Anyone who knows river life would have known but the government did not do the simplest of an environmental impact study that they would make any one of us do. The hubris. It took almost 2 years to complete this thing that McCain helped us with. It should never have happened. It’s what happens when eggheads in Washington make decisions for us in the West. We’ve been fighting that mentality for years. In our case it was all about the endangered species program, but don’t get me started about that!
I’m with you.
I always liked Carl Maldin and Eli Wallach and can’t remember seeing this movie.
That Sicilian (Wallach) is going to get even from what I can tell.
Enjoy the movie.
Our POTUS has to be respectful, WE dont !!! This man was a selfish, vindictive, CORRUPT human being and a HUGE narcissist!!!! I hope he rots in HELL!!! There have been MANY people who have passed that have NOT been of our political persuasion and WE have always been respectful this man DOES NOT deserve a damned bit of respect!!!!
I wouldn't want to get that Zot.
If Ducey had any political sense at all, he would appoint Ward to it and stop the bickering right now.
Doesnt work that way down here though. Money talks and BS walks.
“If you cant say anything nice about someone then dont say anthing. Therefore I have no comment on McCains passing.”
I agree and I have nothing to say.
“I suspect also the morphine administered was increased.
It happens a lot more than people think.”
Would you elaborate on that, please?
The last few weeks with this type of cancer, the patient is pretty much sleeping, in no pain, lose ability to take food, lose body movements, talk, sometimes lose their sight, they can hear people talking, but mostly asleep in a comatose state.
I think they stopped treatment way before yesterday.
Finally.
Don't worry, the rest of us will pick up the slack.
