Some books of the Bible are of Hebrew origin and predate Christ and His Church. The Holy Scripture as a whole is the product of the Catholic Church.
It is also true that the so-called Protestant Reformation removed some books and mangled some translations. That damage, of course, is not from the Church.
The teaching on the death penalty at all times is and was conssitent with the state of civil jurisprudence. When just and secure incarceration was not possible, the Church tolerated death penalty. Now she doesn't. (Wiki)

Except for the fact that before Trent is was 100% acceptable for priests and scholars to question the canon, throw books out, and add books.
