Cardinal Raymond Burke has called for open recognition of the Catholic churchs homosexual culture in light of recent revelations of sexual abuse. I believe that there needs to be an open recognition that we have a very grave problem of a homosexual culture in the Church, Burke said in an interview Thursday, especially among the clergy and the hierarchy, that needs to be addressed honestly and efficaciously.
he former head of the churchs equivalent of the Supreme Court said it was already clear after the studies following the 2002 sexual abuse crisis that most of the acts of abuse were in fact homosexual acts committed with adolescent young men.
There was a studied attempt to either overlook or to deny this, he said, referring to the mainstream media cover-up of the homosexual nature of the abuse as well as such denial within the church itself.

Well, well, well. Look at you. A "proud" Southerner engaging in a liberal Northern slur against your "fellow" Southerners.
No wonder most Catholics are Democrats. They hate "rednecks."
More "Southern pride," eh?
It really says something that conservative rural Americans who come to this forum for a break from constant attacks by the Left find the exact same wording here, on a conservative message board.
You mean like all those illiterate Guatemalan peasants?
Catholic priest is caught on video snorting cocaine in a room full of Nazi memorabilia
I've read that the best thing for these systemic problems is the disinfectant of sunlight...
Since by definition any one under the age of 18 is a minor and not a consenting adult, if the bulk of the problem is that, and this child abuse thing is as bad as it is, then the problem in the Catholic church is horrific beyond words.
Thanks for the tacit admission of that.
And Catholics are so quick to point fingers, again, at other denominations who accept homosexual clergy.
The Catholic church has been doing it for decades, if not centuries.
With all the reports we keep hearing of homosexual behavior in the seminaries, they CANNOT say they didn’t know if a man was homosexual or not.
And yet they still ordain them.
I’m beginning to think that *hypocrisy* is spelled C-a-t-h-o-l-i-c.
The priest who reveals confessional material ceases to be a priest.
Surely, a tyranny might try to compel his testimony, and even succeed, but the priest refusing to cooperate is simply exercising his religion.
Good luck with your totalitarian plans.
Agree absolutely, and the Church canons say so. In this case the Church is not following her own law.
Well, homosexuality practiced between priests calls for the Holy Inquisition in America, whereas raping minors is a crime under civil law.
Yes, however, I agree that the problem is bigger than child molestation by far, however horrid that crime is. The problem is bigger because the homosexual practices among priest, even though only violating the Church canon, make up for a mechanism of cover up of all kinds of crime. I don’t think it was a “tacit admission”, that is what I said quite plainly.
Surely, a tyranny might try to compel his testimony, and even succeed, but the priest refusing to cooperate is simply exercising his religion.
Good luck with your totalitarian plans.
There is NOTHING in Scripture that requires the seal of confession so it's not part of Christianity as a religion.
That is something fabricated by the Roman Catholic organization.
It's reprehensible that Roman Catholicism would cover up crimes and then absolve themselves of the responsibility of it.
The priest who reveals confessional material ceases to be a priest.
He ceased being a priest when he gained knowledge of a hideous crime against a child and remained silent.

I'd like to know the official Catholic procedure for doing this.
Got a link?
“And of course, Baptist Choir Directors are never mentioned for their sexual predation”
Everyone does it. These poor Catholic pedophile priests that have been protected by the church bureaucracy and afforded opportunity to molest boys for decades in cities and towns that trusted in God and their Church.....are being persecuted for being Catholic.
Thank you for exposing the bigotry inherent in holding pedophile priests accountable for their homosexual exploits of children. Stupid Baptists.
It depends how he gained it. If it is outside of the confessional, it is his duty to report an apparent crime. If it is during a sacramental confession, it is even more his duty to keep it secret, although he should advise the guilty to surrender to police.
In the Roman Catholic Church, the Seal of Confession (or Seal of the Confessional) is the absolute duty of priests not to disclose anything that they learn from penitents during the course of the Sacrament of Penance (confession).(wiki)'
And the canons themself:
Can. 983 §1. The sacramental seal is inviolable; therefore it is absolutely forbidden for a confessor to betray in any way a penitent in words or in any manner and for any reason.
§2. The interpreter, if there is one, and all others who in any way have knowledge of sins from confession are also obliged to observe secrecy.
Can. 984 §1. A confessor is prohibited completely from using knowledge acquired from confession to the detriment of the penitent even when any danger of revelation is excluded.
§2. A person who has been placed in authority cannot use in any manner for external governance the knowledge about sins which he has received in confession at any time.
The Church does not go by what is and what is not in the Holy Scripture; the Holy Scripture is itself the product of the Catholic Church.
although he should advise the guilty to surrender to police.
And the results of that policy are now plain for all to see. Its a failure most complete.
If priests are willing to go to prison as accessories after the fact Im okay with that. Church policy does not outweigh criminal law. Toss them into cells next to the pedophile monsters they protected.

the Holy Scripture is itself the product of the Catholic Church.
Therein lies the problem. Scripture predated the church last time I read the Bible.
And apparently what is or is not Holy Scripture is up to whoever is pope on any given day. One day the death penalty is okay, the next day it isnt.

The Church will not use violence against the state, even though the reverse is not true. The Church complies with the civil law when she finds it possible. Otherwise, the Church ignores the civil law, criminal or any other, and calls the faithful to disobedience.
The Church will not use violence against the state,
But theyre fine when priests use it against kids. Spare me.
the Church ignores the civil law, criminal or any other, and calls the faithful to disobedience.
And the proof of that is thousands of children with ruined lives.
Personally I hope the RCC is sued into bankruptcy.
