Massachusetts mayor boycotts Sam Adams after cofounder thanked Trump for tax cuts

Joseph Curtatone, the mayor of Somerville, Mass., said Sunday that he will never drink Sam Adams beer again after the cofounder of the Boston brewery thanked President Trump for a corporate tax cut.

“I will never drink Sam Adam's beer again!” the Massachusetts Democrat said on Twitter.

Curtatone linked to an article published by the Boston Business Journal that detailed a dinner where Jim Koch, who co-founded Boston Beer, thanked the president for the GOP-authored tax cut that he said would help his company compete against foreign brewers.

In another tweet posted on Sunday evening, Curtatone made a direct message to Koch.

According to the Business Journal, Koch was one of 13 corporate executives who dined with the president at his golf resort in New Jersey on Tuesday.

Koch reportedly claimed during the dinner that the president’s tax reform measure “was a very big deal” for his company, while noting that “85 percent of the beer made in the United States is owned by foreign companies.”

“I mean, Americans — I’m the largest American-owned brewery at 2 percent market share. We were paying 38-percent taxes … and competing against people who were paying 20. And now we have a level playing field, and we’re going to kick their ass,” Koch said at the dinner.

“Wow. But you’ve done a great job,” Trump reportedly said. “Great job.”

My parents grew up mostly in JP, and my older brother told me stories about the old Haffenreffer Brewery as some sort of a hangout. I was too young to recall the area attractions except for perhaps the Children’s Museum which was once not far.

My Dad was evicted from his apartment because of the demolitions along Columbus Avenue, and He had to move some distance away from his boyhood Chums.

The Children’s Museum was on the Jamaicaway, right across from Bill Russell’s House (Boston Celtics).

The Museum got moved to the Wharf area in Boston, and now those homes are worth millions!

Columbus Ave was the hardest hit by demolitions.

We have similar memories!

I've seen them for sale. I take the same approach as with breads and pastas. It's easier to just omit from my diet. The replacements are often as disagreeable for different reasons. I've managed to get my weight stable around 146 (down from 190). Still working on getting the lectins out of my diet in hopes of taming the rheumatoid arthritis. 800 mg of ibuprofen daily keeps it manageable.
