Anyone remember what happened when Daffy Duck tried to stuff the genii back in the lamp?
That is where we are. A 3d printed gun today doesn’t make much sense ($19K for the machine, $1K for the plans, and about $5K more for the materials) but in a few years those costs will come down (note the costs for a plastic gun, good for a few shots are less but still in the $ thousands).
Better to walk up to the issue now and deal with it. It will happen underground or in the open but it WILL happen.

Huh? You can buy a 3D printer for less than $100 and good ones start at around $500. The materials are nowhere around that expensive and the plans are free.

You're off by just a few dollars. Try $2000 for the
CNC mill that will cut your gun parts out of a block of aluminum.
The plans (the G-code that tells the mill what to do) are being released as open source, so free.
$5 per pound for
6061 aluminum alloy billets or maybe $75 if you want the gun's receiver to be preformed into an
80% receiver to save yourself a bit of work.
