Washington (CNN) - President Donald Trump thinks he's overdue some credit for steering the strongest economy on the planet -- and he's probably right.
"These numbers are very, very sustainable -- this isn't a one-time shot," Trump said on Friday, speaking from the South Lawn of the White House after news that the US economy grew at a 4.1% annual rate in the second quarter of the year.
Fresh from a trip to the Midwestern heartlands, the President is making the very best possible case for his administration as the pace heats up ahead of the midterm elections. He's belting out a strong economic message with a fervor that Democrats have yet to match this election cycle.
Presidents usually get too much blame when the economy is doing badly, since downturns are often caused by outside shocks or cyclical factors, but that also gives them a chance to crow when things are going full steam ahead.

It’s more than just winning. He’s working his butt off for us.
The thing which should be pointed out....none of this is Einstein-related policies. Bush and Obama both could have taken various measures and accomplished this as well. Neither had any real interest in the ‘little guy’.
A CNN dude hoping not to get fired by ATT.
Obama the ideologue? Not a Schneeball’s chance in der Hölle.
Little Guys dont organize $10,000 a plate fund raisers.
But in Bushs defense he did try to do some important things in his first term but the Dems fought him at every turn.
And all the while the repercussions of 9/11 were falling on him.
Trump also has the big advantage of caring what the his party thinks of what he is trying to do. Trump was never part of the party organization. He got where he is with out any real party help. He doesnt owe the party loyalty and he doesnt worry that the party will not back his reelection.
He knows that the party needs him more than he needs it.
Trump holds the trump cards.
Remember the usual Dem critics were predicting a market crash if PDJT was elected.
Has there been some kind of seismic shift that I missed? First bush, now cnn?
Another Trump Hit peace by CNN, FAKE NE.....

SOME credit, eh?
The thing to keep in mind, is that China imports an all-time record of things into America.
The most of any country. In all of recorded history. The most.
A new all-time record amount. And it is getting even worse this year.
That needs to be reversed.
Both parties have sold us out.
Both of them.
I am not being down on Trump. But I am very down on the people who are selling us out.
America wasn’t always this way. The sell-out has happened in the last generation.
Now, we need to be for America again.
Not importing. Produce things right in the USA once again.
Exactly. He gets *ALL* the credit as far as I'm concerned!
...wonder how many death threats Stephen Collinson has gotten...* smiles*
Some of the credit?? He deserves ALL the credit.
...
He’s not a Democrat.
Seriously. Trump changed course on so many economic policies, that if a president ever deserved credit, he should get it.
Some?!!!! SOME?!!!! Phuckin CNN doesn't know it's arse from a hole in the ground! Haters!!!!
Mainly because both Obama and Bush were/are part of the elite and controlled by lobbyists and donors. President Trump is controlled by no one; he is his own man, one who cares for America and Americans not Washington D.C.
This article is what my mom would have termed, “damned to Hell by faint praise.”
