President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Sunday released a seven-page letter he sent to U.S. President Donald Trump detailing how he plans to improve Mexico's economy and security when he takes office in December so that Mexicans do not feel the need to migrate.
"There will be many changes," he promised in the letter. "And in this new atmosphere of progress with well-being, I'm sure we can reach agreements to confront together the migration phenomenon as well as the problem of border insecurity."
Lopez Obrador also suggested the two countries draft a development plan backed by public funds and invite Central American countries to join, with the aim of making it "economically unnecessary" for Central Americans to migrate.

I live in Mexico. I post in Mexico. Loosen up there you nice folks North of the Rio Grande. It has been a tough transition as the PRI party has not made it easy for the new President Elect to have a smooth transition. As we all gave Donald J. Trump a chance, give AMLO a chance, he might surprise a LOT of people. He has battled a press that had sold their souls to the PRI and PAN parties. I am hopeful.

I said after AMLO was elected that he and Trump might actually get along better than most think. AMLO probably read “The Art of the Deal” himself.
That depends on how stubborn AMLO is and is he willing to risk meeting Trump, knowing the resistance he’ll face from many of his supporters. We’ll see.

We should start a program that taxes at 50% all remittances where the senders cannot prove that the money is Federal Income Tax Paid. And 10% on any money where the senders can show proof of taxation.
Mexico is a failed state that has lived off of it’s Northern neighbor for the whole of it’s entire existence as a country. Personally, I don’t know why any American would set foot in that $hit hole of a country. I was at a maquilladora company in Tijuana 30 years ago for a few hours and could not wait to get back across the border.
Why do I feel that he’s really looking for billions more in foreign aide.

I am hopeful too. AMLO is a raving leftist, but he has a political background and I think he does want to make Mexico better. I think he’s making an honest effort to reach out on common grounds. I hope Trump will meet with him.
For the anti-Hispanic crowd here, Mexico actually doesn’t want its most competent citizens to leave, and what is sponsoring the massive assault of non-Mexicans (ranging from South and Central Americans to Chinese and Middle Easterners) is Cuba, Obama’s all time fave.
