Trump wants suspensions for NFL players who kneel during anthem

Reuters Staff

2 Min Read

(Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that National Football League (NFL) players who do not stand for the national anthem should be suspended for the season without pay.

The comments come a day after the NFL and the union representing its players said they were working on a resolution to the league’s national anthem policy.

The policy, which was announced in May, followed Trump’s denunciation of pregame protests which were intended to call attention to what critics say is often brutal treatment of minorities by U.S. law enforcement.

Trump and others have blasted the gesture as a sign of disrespect to the U.S. flag and the military.

“The NFL National Anthem Debate is alive and well again - can’t believe it!,” Trump said on Twitter.

“First time kneeling, out for game. Second time kneeling, out for season/no pay.

“The $40,000,000 Commissioner must now make a stand,” he said in reference to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

I just have a message for the NFL's advertisers:

I,like many former NFL fans,am in a place...personally and financially...to live "the good life".I,like many, can afford to buy relatively expensive cars, take vacations in the Caribbean (and beyond),eat at relatively expensive restaurants and I can afford to take the medications that are often advertised on TV that cost $500 a month.

But,alas, your players insist on bringing politics to an entertainment venue.

“...The National Felons League?....”
Absolutely...and nobody trolls em better than Trump.
IF it weren’t for the ball, these azzholes would be on a chain gang picking up trash on the side of the highway while wearing prison orange.
These azzholes and the the whole BLM crybaby crowd need to pack it up and move to Zimbabwe as it’s a country more in tune to their beliefs and philosophies.

The solution over time would be to incorporate a policy
in their NFL rules of what is required.

NBA RULE

“players, coaches and trainers are to stand and line up in a
dignified posture along the sidelines or on the foul line”
during the playing of the national anthem.

SIMPLE.

“Hey bartender! Change the channel. The NFL sucks!

— Simply done.
NFL is now a spectator sport. Angst. Trash it publicly. Be loud.
Be measured. Sports jocks are not idols. They are stupid.

“No one can troll like President Trump.lol”

Trump made his point multiple times and it was a good one. The obsession with the NFL is becoming tiring and will become irritating if it continues. Time to move on. There are bigger issues that need tweet action. How about using the tweet platform to call out Congress for not repealing O’care? How about a strong push to investigate the Awan brothers and the compromising of Congressional computers? How about a 24/7 push on the wall given the Senate is about to water down the House funding bill? Use the tweet to put some fire under the wishy washy GOP senators.

“Let these fools continue to blow their money and find themselves begging for cash when the NFL can no longer pay them millions of dollars to be an embarrassment.”

Just pass national legislation making it illegal for the NFL ( or the NBA, or MLB) to get public financing for their stadiums/arenas/ballparks.

> No. Trump voiced his opinion on what the consequences should be. He does not arbitrate policy for the NFL. <

I agree with you. As a citizen, Trump has the right to voice his opinion like anyone else. But as president, it’s none of his business.

I actually agree with Trump’s position here. But as a general rule, I’d rather that a president (any president) not stick his nose into every last thing.

I’m glad he is standing for America. Trump breaks the weeny Republican mold.

Conservatives have few outlets for voicing their views We don’t have access to the MSM, pop culture, newsprint, the arts etc. Trump can bring our message to the people. He’s the one factor that can balance out the extreme liberal view.

I don’t think that’s necessary.

Let the fans toss them out of the stadium.

Take them up to the top of the stadium and toss them out.

I have a better solution to the issue than Trump or the NFL Commissioner or the players.

How about....

Make the standing for the flag and for the National Anthem mandatory....

NO!!!! Not this year. As time goes by.

Make it mandatory through the players’ contracts. No!!!! NOT in the current contracts In future contracts. In new contracts to new players just out of college. And new contracts to current players who are up for negotiations and need to sign new contracts.

That way, the problem will have faded away, with time, when the current players retire and the new contracts take effect. Those in new contracts will have to abide by the contractual obligations, one of which is to stand for the National Anthem and flag at the beginning of games. Any violators will have to pay the penalties outlined in their contracts which they signed.

Through “attrition”, the current problem will have faded into history, and the remaining players and future players will be under contract NOT to be offensive to the majority of Americans nor to the game.
