(Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that National Football League (NFL) players who do not stand for the national anthem should be suspended for the season without pay.
The comments come a day after the NFL and the union representing its players said they were working on a resolution to the leagues national anthem policy.
The policy, which was announced in May, followed Trumps denunciation of pregame protests which were intended to call attention to what critics say is often brutal treatment of minorities by U.S. law enforcement.
Trump and others have blasted the gesture as a sign of disrespect to the U.S. flag and the military.
The NFL National Anthem Debate is alive and well again - cant believe it!, Trump said on Twitter.
First time kneeling, out for game. Second time kneeling, out for season/no pay.
The $40,000,000 Commissioner must now make a stand, he said in reference to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

BAM!
Trump is a Hound Dog on the Trail....
I still find it incredible that some people - grown adults - will never accept that their actions can have consequences.
No one can troll like President Trump.lol
No. Trump voiced his opinion on what the consequences should be. He does not arbitrate policy for the NFL.
Trump is TRIGGERING them again. Great to watch!
So do I. But it won’t happen.
What would they do if we completely ignored them?
I suspect the NFL owners don't much care what the President wants.
Yes, he knows Goodell is a pu$$y who won’t stand up to the players who are EMPLOYEES, but he puts it out there anyway. Ha ha
Kaepernick, for one, not only kneels during the
National Anthem, he aggressively promotes a revolutionary communist agenda, frequently wearing Black Panther Party t-shirts and such.
Trump warned the NFL owners: This issue is a guaranteed winner for him, and a loser for the NFL. Don’t do it.

Who’s your Mac Daddy
Mr. President,
This entire game is beneath your notice. The entire league is not worth your time. Leave these fools to protest everything to a nonexistent audience for spineless owners. You are doing far too much good to let these speed bumps of millionaires distract you from making America great again!!!
L
Let these fools continue to blow their money and find themselves begging for cash when the NFL can no longer pay them millions of dollars to be an embarrassment.
Election.
Well, there goes Russia, Russia, Russia out of the headlines. Man, this guy is a world-champion troller.
Trump knows he’s on the winning side of this issue and he’ll get a lot of free publicity. It’s better than spending a fortune on campaign commercials.
It was a scam and a lie from the word hike. This dimwitted protest was always directed at us, and no one else. If it wasnt us, who was it? The America-loathing elite that was cheering them on?
These preening primadonnas did not have to choose the football game venue, one we attend to escape from things like politics and condescending lectures. They did not have to choose the National Anthem, a symbol of the country we love and serve. If these overpaid, pampered, posing fools wanted to protest whatever it is they are protesting, they could have done it differently, but then doing it differently wouldnt have freaked out the squares. That was the point, and now they are mad because we took their insult exactly as they intended it to be taken. And they arent even man enough to admit it. Their new story is that this has nothing to do with us Normals, that it's not an insult. No, it's a heartfelt plea for something. I guess the pig-cop socks and Castro T-shirt were gestures of respect.
Lets get real. They wanted to rub our faces in their contempt, to laugh at us as we had to endure it, humiliated by our own powerlessness. We were supposed to just sit there and take it. We are never supposed to use our own power to fight back.
