Newt Gingrich: Trump's Putin press conference 'most serious mistake of his presidency'
Washington Examiner ^ | July 16, 2018 | Naomi Lim

Posted on 07/16/2018 3:23:29 PM PDT by FewsOrange

Newt Gingrich on Monday offered rare, scalding criticism of President Trump, demanding that the president explain the comments he made during his controversial press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the conclusion of their talks in Helsinki.

"President Trump must clarify his statements in Helsinki on our intelligence system and Putin," the former House speaker wrote on Twitter. "It is the most serious mistake of his presidency and must be corrected—-immediately."

Trump received widespread scorn on Monday after he said at the media availability that he has yet to see any compelling reason why the Kremlin would have interfered in the 2016 election.

His comments follow special counsel Robert Mueller's indictment in federal court on Friday, which alleged 12 Russian military officials hacked Democratic email servers during the campaign.

Gingrich has been a vocal supporter of Trump, but he has on occasion provided constructive critiques of his performance.

Gingrich chastised Trump in April, claiming his administration had botched the release of Deputy Attorney Rod Rosenstein's memo outlining problems with fired FBI Director James Comey.

All he had to say is that he has great confidence in our intel

Why? The so-called "intel" is DNC paid-for smear campaign material that is then picked up and used by the FBI as if it is actual intel. The FBI is chock full of "special" agents who apparently suffer advanced TDS (why else are they sending 50,000 messages with "F' Trump", "stop Trump", etc).

Trump is right, you can’t trust the Intel agencies as they were constituted under 0bama with the likes of Brennan, Comey and Clapper, as well as the 0bama embeds like Struzk, Page and others. The DNC servers were never examined by the FBI who just walked away when the DNC refused to turn them over. I haven’t seen any convincing evidence that the Russians were involved in anything more sinister than buying facebook ads, and organizing a couple of sparsely attended demonstration. Mexico, Israel, and others routinely meddle in our elections, and more effectively, but no one says or does anything about that.

Trump is surrounded by an Intel group that wants to eject him from office. The deep state is not finished going after him.

I don’t blame him for not kissing up to CIA/FBI....he can’t trust them!

What went wrong ?
They both hate the media ?
They mocked them.
Are you defending our deranged Dem media and nutty outrageous questions .
The media was a unreal disgrace .
That Election thing is a tired hoax and its gone on too long .
Trump is a polite business man and discussing things in private.
You are defending the Dem media here ?

Gingrich just can’t help himself. It’s that superiority complex of his.

except for when he says something supportive of the president, then you guys think he’s the greatest...

Fake Dichotomy!

It isn't whether he says something supportive of the President, its whether he says something truthful concerning the President.

Big difference my FRiend!

"Newt is right. This whole trip has been a PR disaster, which will be reflected in the polls for all the races this fall."

Hmmm...An effective DU troll shouldn't make such a baseless statement...You guys generally point to at least one "fact" to misconstrue an event...Get back to Propaganda 101 and study some more...

"...The DNC servers were never examined by the FBI who just walked away when the DNC refused to turn them over."

That right there should inform anyone with half a brain, who it is controlling DOJ, FBI, CIA, etc... Remember CLinton and her cohorts received immunity before they were even interviewed. Since when does the FBI take orders from the DNC?

President Trump's instincts are correct in not trusting any of them.

"And ... there it is, like clockwork. Newt just quoted on FNC Special Report panel."

Turned it off the moment I saw Stirewalt in Krauthammer's chair.

‘Don’t ever get on here & speak for me’

you know, 99.9% of people understand the phrase ‘you guys’ is plural, and as such is not directed at the individual...guess you’re in the 1%...

So Newt, given the circumstances - the announcement three days before your first big summit with the leader of Russia that twelve of his military officers had been indicted for hacking our elections, and the fact that you were asked in the press conference being broadcast throughout the world after your meeting, with the president standing right next to you, if you believed your own intelligence officers or Mr. Putin - how would you have answered (you’ve got a generous ten seconds to come up with your reply)?.....

Actually, he did say he had confidence in Coats and the intel people.

That said, I have serious questions here. Trump makes good points about the DNC server. There was an interesting article in The Nation drawing the conclusion that the theft of data was an inside job.

Trump took the worst possible time, however, to raise these points. He came across as siding with Putin on this issue. Very bad optics.

"We’ve all been witnessing “our intelligence system” at work trying to oust our duly elected president for 2 years now, haven’t we? Our intel people need to prove themselves worthy of trust at this point."

Obama left many deeply corrupted agencies brimming with American hatred. The IRS, FBI, EPA, NASA, DOE, CIA... all have been politicized and weaponized against this administration. I'm not even too sure how strong the military brass is in honoring the new CinC.

Amen. I’ve never understood the worship that some people have for Newt.

He has always been erratic and untrustworthy. His latest betrayal doesn’t surprise me one bit.

What in the world is wrong with Newt Gingrich?

Having written extensively about Donald Trump, he should know that he isn’t stupid and won’t tell you everything he’s doing behind the scenes with those he negotiates with.

I am ashamed of Newt Gingrich.

And for the record, I think President Trump struck EXACTLY the right balance in that press conference with Vladimir Putin.
