Theres a popular saying among those of us in the Mexican American community who grew up on the border: We didnt cross the border, the border crossed us. With Sundays election of Andrés Manuel López Obrador as Mexicos next president, the idea to revisit the legality of our southern border, proposed by Mexican leftist leader Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano, is suddenly not so crazy.

“So they set up a system of legal immigration for Americans to come in and settle and become a buffer between the Mexicans and the Indians.”
The first of those was called the Old 300. They came with Stephen F. and James E. B. Austin, who were working for the Spanish Govt. I have a copy of a handwritten Deed in Spanish, signed by the Austins, deeding a “league of land” to my GGGG Grandfather.
Annex Mexico then the people there won’t have to sneak across the Rio Grande to be in the USA.
Eyes bad again. Sorry.
Mexico is a communist country. Has been since the revolution and new communist, anti-Christ constitution was implemented in 1917.
Yep.

If I remember correctly the US paid Mexico for Arizona ,New Mexico and California. In addition we also paid them for Texas, $15 million for all .
Let’s crunch some numbers. Mexico achieved independence in 1821 and lost the southwest in 1848. So they had it for all of 27 years. We’ve had it for 170 years. There were very few Mexicans actually living in the Mexican Cession. The Spanish-speakers referred to themselves as ‘Spanish’. So no, it’s not like the border ‘moved’ on all of the Mexican-Americans. They or their ancestors crossed a border that has been in place for the better part of two centuries.
I would hate to think how many billions or trillions of dollars it would take to bring Mexico up to American standards.
That’s right, there’s no border there.
So be sure to fill out your mexican tax return and file it every year.
Give Mexico back to the Aztecs and force the Spanish conquerors out of the land they stole, and send them back to Spain.
I don’t know. Could we give back California but keep Texas?
Mexican elites have co-opted all that Aztec stuff. You find wealthy “white” Mexicans giving their children Aztec names and laying claim to the Aztec heritage. It’s one way they stay in power.
I can imagine a scenario with this leading to actual fighting between the US and Mexico.
Obviously, the Mexicans, either the cartels or the military, would be ill-advised to get jiggy with the USA.
I personally think that Mexican War 2: Electric Boogaloo would be great.
This time we could demand all of Baja California, and maybe the Yucatan too.
;^)
Will those of any European heritage leave Mexico to the Aztecs and other Indian tribes? Thought not. Should the results of the Mexican War of Independence be reversed and Mexico returned to Spain? Thought not. History moves forward.
How bad does your periodical have to suck to let her write stupid articles like this tripe?
Mexico won independence from Spain in 1821. Texas won independence from Mexico in 1836. So Texas was part of Mexico for 15 years almost 200 years ago.
Get over it.
