Amul Thapar: Trump Country's Perfect SCOTUS Choice President Trump already a conservative hero for appointing Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court and for his swift remaking of the federal appellate courts can again make history by choosing Judge Amul Thapar of Kentucky to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy. Thapar, the son of Indian immigrants who came to America legally, is the product of public schools in Toledo, Ohio. He was the first ever judge of South Asian descent appointed to the federal bench and would be the first person of any Asian heritage appointed to the Supreme Court. Thapar is a history-making choice for a president who loves to make history. Trump often zigs when other presidents would have zagged, as the Washington Post noted this weekend, and he can again defy the swamp by appointing someone like Thapar who is squarely from outside of it. For conservatives, Thapar is a dream choice. Hes an originalist, a term associated with Justices Clarence Thomas, Gorsuch and the late Antonin Scalia. Imagine a Supreme Court where the two leading conservative originalists are an African-American and an Indian-American. Trump can absolutely shatter the stereotypes liberals throw at Republicans by having Thapar join Thomas to defend and indeed crusade for the U.S. Constitution.

Thapar may be top of the class among potential nominee’s in academic credentials. Certainly not a token type, or here because of race quota.

Well, the problem’s with the left’s warped pandering to minorities - even people who didn’t directly benefit from it will be suspected of having gotten where they are because of it. Like every other bright idea they come up with, it destroys everyone it comes in contact with.
As for Thapar, I’m not suggesting he’s on the list because of any kind of “race quota” - I was simply saying he shouldn’t be chosen - or celebrated - because of that. If they want a “colorblind society” then let’s HAVE one.
He is Catholic, converted. Wonder what school in Toledo he attended... There is Toledo Public, then there is Ottawa Hills.
He sounds great!
Nope, never happened.
Couldn’t agree more about going forward with a colorblind society which gives top priority to merit & experience instead of quota’s based on race, or national origin.
You do have a point there. I just saw a twitter from some woman who said the next SCOTUS appointment would jail women for miscarriages. Some are just insane.
Notice that Amy Barrett is the only potential candidate being attacked? That means, imo, the other side has a pretty clear idea of who will be picked on Monday.
Trump has also been consulting with lawmakers including Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., who has expressed reservations about Kavanaugh's candidacy, according to a person familiar with the call.
Paul has told colleagues that he wouldn't vote in favor of Kavanaugh if the judge is nominated, citing Kavanaugh's role during the Bush administration on cases involving executive privilege and the disclosure of documents to Congress.
That’s interesting. Can’t afford to lose Rand Paul, unless Manchin could be recruited to replace him. The senate confirmation numbers are too tight.
I saw someone tweet yesterday who had talked with a lot of base people about the scotus pick and the consensus was ‘not Kavanaugh’. There’s unease about him, just as with Hardiman, before Gorsuch was chosen.
Sounds more and more that we’re looking at Barrett, Thapar? I thought Kavannaugh was the leader of the field? IN fact, Ann coulter is very high on him.
Fox news tweets say it’s between Kavanaugh & Ketteridge (frontrunners) and Barrett in there. Bailey Olson tweets say Kavanaugh is the frontrunner and that is the buzz around DC. However this WH is cunning and good at ‘bait-and-switch’. Remember Hardiman was touted right up to when Gorsuch was introduced as the choice.
The religious base wants Barrett. The establishment Reps want Kavanaugh, including Coulter. Rand Paul doesn’t want Kavanaugh, and neither does the base in general. Rumor is Collins/Murkowski want Barrett. This ‘horse race’ is getting very complicated.
I think Thapar is not in the running for this time. I’m sure he’ll get in sometime though.
Rumor is Collins/Murkowski want Barrett
If this is true then it will be Barrett, and I can live with that, in fact would be a great choice.
That was from the tweeter @Bestamericanusa (formerly @beercrusher) who posted on July 3:
“SOURCE: In order to sway Senators Collins and Murkowski, #Trump will pick Amy Coney Barrett, 46, as his #SCOTUS nominee. Shes a reliable conservative and Democrats in red states would be stupid to oppose her!” and “You notice that everyone in the media is talking about #Barrett since I dropped this tweet? My sources are rock solid and they never miss!”
HOWEVER Daily Caller supposedly says today that Barrett’s interview with President Trump was good but Ketteridge hit it out of the park. That would be a twist on this fascinating horse race.
ONce again it shows how utterly stupid, lazy, ignorant and pompous Bush and his father were. They put 5 cents worth of time and effort into choosing. In fact, Bush chooses his personal attorney? What an @ss.
Trump has them all beat. He does his homework.
Kethledge, I mean, not Ketteridge. He’s a Scalia-type textualist, clerked under Kennedy, only 51 years. He strongly suggested Gorsuch for the first scotus seat. He might be the ‘dark horse’ consensus candidate here, after his POTUS interview.

Ann Coulter is apoplectic about Ketteridge getting the nod.
Interesting the way Trump does things, isn’t it?
Why would pro abort Collins want to support a Catholic woman that actually believes in the faith. One that has 7 children? All I can read is how establishment republicans and democrats want Kavanaugh because hes a Bush RINO who they all think will be a clone of Kennedy.
No. I want multigenerational judges that appreciate our culture and customs.
First generation don’t. Never do. They always have one foot in their “homeland”.
I've done business with the Patels, so to speak.
Never again.
They've no honor, no scruples. They will stab you in the back for money or pleasure.
Yes, this is an unfair generalization. Too effing bad for them in the particular.
