Trump Plots To Erase His Tax Cut
rove.com ^ | 06/28/2018 | Karl Rove

Posted on 06/30/2018 10:07:07 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

President Trump is justifiably proud of passing tax reform last December, telling audiences “because of our tax cuts, you can keep more of your hard-earned money.” He’s right: American taxpayers will save $75 billion this year and $189 billion next year, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation.

Yet the president’s tariffs on imports could negate much of the tax relief he’s been bragging about. These levies are not paid by foreign countries or companies. They are passed on to American consumers in the form of higher prices for either foreign or U.S.-made goods.

The Trump tariffs are now clawing back tax savings at a rate of roughly $10.6 billion per year. The levies already in place include 25% on steel (imports in 2017 were an estimated $23.4 billion), 30% on solar panels ($8.5 billion), 10% on aluminum ($18 billion) and 20% on washing machines ($1.8 billion).

That’s chump change compared with what may be coming. On July 6, a 25% tariff kicks in on 818 Chinese imports worth $34 billion, costing Americans another $8.5 billion a year. If China retaliates, Mr. Trump has said he’ll slap a 10% tariff on an additional $200 billion of Chinese exports. The president warned last week that if Beijing responds a second time, he could levy a tariff on $200 billion more in Chinese exports. And an administration proposal for a 25% tariff on 284 Chinese exports to the U.S., whose value was $16 billion in 2017, is pending.

He was a Bush believer, which entailed some errors in reading the electorate.

I’ve heard his primary political tool was “mass mailings”.
If so very behind the times an from his Fox TV mutterings increasingly so every year!

He needs to retire and go back to Texas!

I think Trump is in process of climbing onto a classic Christian worldview, though currently he mostly views it as a classic American worldview where Christians are “helpful.” But the latter derived from the former. I think God, not ever One to miss a true opportunity, is bearing events forward on that premise — enduring Trump’s rough side for the sake of bringing a new era (if temporary) of peace.

The press must be put in it’s place, or it makes you look unable to control the situation.

You HAVE TO be seen as in control, as president.

The modern equivalent might be “mass Facebookings.” As electronics has captured more of people’s attention, paper captures less.

Look to whom and why? I don’t see the need to view that as an invariant. Press has ridden hostilely on administrations since well before Abraham Lincoln. Communicating a broader viewpoint well enough that smaller things don’t capture the public attention is the challenge here.

What he acted on were yesterday’s poll results. The man was utterly clueless as to what leadership entails—such as how you alter yesterday’s opinions. Pathetic!

And frankly, I’m not sure whether I see so much control as a bickerfest. A little of that kind of back and forth, fine. At a point it needs to itself get under control. One can give periodic broad updates without such a bickerfest that people lose track of who said what and why.

You're close, but extend it to the larger body politic.

I’m not bothered by bickering at all.

He will not allow them to control the situation.

He tells the the truth, and stuffs it down their throat.

Sorry, you and I have two different takes on this.

I want a man that is willing to mix it up.

When you cut taxes with one hand and raise them with the other, you undo some of the good you did.

In fact I predicted it in offering a vision in a song which my co-writer buddy was urged to submit to ASCAP, but didn’t formulate, so I wrote most of it. ASCAP later got cold feet on promoting it due to the thunder of controversy over Donald Trump. But it mentions no politician, no party, and except that they are so exceedingly ornery and godless today, it could be even adopted by Democrats.

Well, guess what... simply going one’s merry way no matter what the “press” says is another way to control a situation. It as the bible says about God: let every man be a liar, but God be true. If Trump reaches the power of God well enough, it won’t matter what the press says one day if it ends up eating its words due to sheer events the next day.

Donald Trump has foresight, and knows that though people may bitch and moan about where he is leading things, they will find the view to be brighter at the destination.
