The retirement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy has conservative Christians excited about a huge opportunity to shift American laws on issues like religious freedom and abortion. President Donald Trump has noted he has a list of 25 names as possible Supreme Court candidates, but there's one name that pro-lifers seem to really love.
CBN's Chief Political Correspondent David Brody says evangelical circles are buzzing about Amy Coney Barrett.
"Many of my sources, evangelical in nature, love her. They believe that she is the one that if they had their dream pick that she would be the one," Brody said on the 700 Club Friday. "Barrett has been very outspoken of her Catholic views and God."
Barrett is a mother of seven children and a devout Catholic. At just 46-years-old, Barrett holds promise for a potential decades-long term on the bench. She once clerked for Justice Antonin Scalia, taught law at Notre Dame, and has reported conservative views about protecting religious freedom.
A Barrett nomination could face a very tough fight in the Senate. Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) opposed Barrett vehemently during her Senate confirmation battle for US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Feinstein even implemented a religious test, blasting Barrett for her deep Catholic faith, calling it "dogma."
"When you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you and that's of concern when you come to big issues that large numbers of people have fought for years," Feinstein said.

Does anyone really look at it that way anymore? I could mostly care less about their religion unless they were Islamic. My only concern regarding a Jewish person is if they hold dual citizenship with Israel, which I’d object to their divided loyalty. Okay, if they were member of a fake religion like Church of Scientology, that’d be a non-starter. What about a Wiccam?
Considering her teaching position at Notre Dame (truly a bastion of leftwing socialism), where is she on homosexual “marriage” and freedom to express one’s religion?
IOW, how would she vote on the “Bake the damn homo cake” case?
You can’t trust a female judge. They rarely have the strength of character to do the hardest job, i.e. the adherence to precedent in the face of “bad facts.”
The saying “bad facts make bad law” will mean something to the lawyers in the crowd here. When an oddball but compelling set of facts is presented where a long standing and sensible rule of law exists, some jurists, in including most women jurists, think it is their duty to create an exception. The exception becomes a leak. The leak becomes a hole, and before you know it a sensible rule of law is lost.
I had good women bosses and bad women bosses. But that’s beside the point. I just think this whole business of women being completely out of the homes has had a bad effect on society. On the other subject, I do not believe women make good Supreme Court justices. Let’s go back to the nine old men model of the Supreme Court. At least they were quiet and we barely knew their names.
For some reason I keep thinking of the movie A Mighty Wind in which Fred Willard tries to make a supreme court sit com. Surprised that there are only nine justices (not twelve), he assumes they’ve been “downsized.”
Give me a Constitutional Constructionist with a track record of faithfulness to that analytical form and I don’t give a damn what their name may be.
Roe will be overturned, probably in my lifetime (I'm entering my mid 60s). All that will do is send the issue back to the states, each of which over time will set up varying levels of restrictions on abortion, all of which will mean very little because those who want abortions will cross state lines to obtain them.
It will take a Third Great Awakening to lower significantly the number of abortions in the US, and I wouldn't put it past the Triune God to initiate one.
I call BS. It makes no sense. Why would Evangelicals prefer Catholics? They would not. There aren’t enough Evangelicals and Protestants there now.
Maybe the SCOTUS should consist of the same proportion of denominations of the Founding Fathers who invented SCOTUS.
If 100% of Founding Fathers were Catholic, then 100% of SCOTUS should be Catholic. Fifty percent Catholic FF = 50 percent Catholic SCOTUS. And so on.
As a Born Again evangelical Christian myself I find that she is not my pick either. I'm not interested in someone looking to 'settle a score' because of whatever wrong they can imagine or come to believe in. Quite naturally I favor an 'Original Constitutionalist' for the court. One that believes in enforcing the Constitution as written and certainly not imagined based upon a particular judges personal political bias, bent or political agenda aka an activist out to rectify some biased or perceived wrong.
And most certainly not an ideological hack pushing a political or religious agenda for whatever reason no matter how noble or righteous they think it should be or is. Just render verdicts based on the Constitution as written.

I absolutely agree. She may be fine on the 2nd amendment issue, but I don’t want us to find out the hard way that she isn’t. I want Trump to nominate someone with a proven track record on supporting 2A and the Constitution in general. This is too important to take a chance on.
My mom is a mother of 7 as well. I don’t blame Barrett for not having had a chance to prove her bones regarding the 2A. But this is far too important an issue to leave to chance. I don’t blame my new coworker for not having experience in a particular coding language, but when a high stakes project comes up that requires a proven track record, I’m not tapping that guy for it. And nothing is higher stakes right now that the SCOTUS.

Can't get over the idea that Catholics were the FIRST CHRISTIANS, and every other branch of Christianity are out growths of Bishop Luther, a German apostate, and a man that was pissed off because his views were not accepted as dogma.
I still love you, even though Evangelicals have a puffed up view of their own value, both to God and man.
I don’t know much about any of Trump’s 25 or so on his list. This woman sounds more than acceptable compared to the 3 ladies already on the bench, and it would be nice to remind the world that all female judges are not liberals.
Part of me wants to wait until after the election, because I’m pretty sure there will be more republicans and that means John McCain will be much less of an issue.
But if we can get a good one now, then I’m ok with that

She’s mine. Catholic big plus. But biggest plus is she’s 46 years old. I’d rather younger but she’s the youngest and that’s my main qualifier in conservative Justices.
Trump would murder the Democrats if he picks Barrett. She is smart as hell, and can avoid Gloria Allred showing up with lies. She has freshly gone through the process. They can’t lay a hand on her.
I have heard nothing to make me think she won’t defend our firearms. She is the abortionists’ and sexual nutballs’ worst nightmare.
