Why Evangelicals Want Trump to Pick Amy Coney Barrett for the Supreme Court
CBN ^

Posted on 06/29/2018 9:52:23 AM PDT by springwater13

The retirement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy has conservative Christians excited about a huge opportunity to shift American laws on issues like religious freedom and abortion. President Donald Trump has noted he has a list of 25 names as possible Supreme Court candidates, but there's one name that pro-lifers seem to really love.

CBN's Chief Political Correspondent David Brody says evangelical circles are buzzing about Amy Coney Barrett.

"Many of my sources, evangelical in nature, love her. They believe that she is the one that if they had their dream pick that she would be the one," Brody said on the 700 Club Friday. "Barrett has been very outspoken of her Catholic views and God."

Barrett is a mother of seven children and a devout Catholic. At just 46-years-old, Barrett holds promise for a potential decades-long term on the bench. She once clerked for Justice Antonin Scalia, taught law at Notre Dame, and has reported conservative views about protecting religious freedom.

A Barrett nomination could face a very tough fight in the Senate. Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) opposed Barrett vehemently during her Senate confirmation battle for US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Feinstein even implemented a religious test, blasting Barrett for her deep Catholic faith, calling it "dogma."

"When you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you and that's of concern when you come to big issues that large numbers of people have fought for years," Feinstein said.

“As far as not putting a woman on the court b/c she “might go squishy”, frankly, we have had several men go squishy, too- Souter, Kennedy and even Roberts on the ACA.”

Most of the justices who have “grown” in libspeak were men. Souter was a hundred percent liberal. So was Stevens. These were Republican nominees. Kennedy and O’ Connor were center left, but Sandra still whomped the Ninth Circuit on the death penalty abomination when they tried to save the murderer of those kids in San Diego. That was her finest hour.

I am really in Barrett’s corner.

I’m not a lawyer and don’t follow the players closely. As to the legal merits of the nominees, I am completely reliant on endorsements/assessments of the gurus among the various Rightworld groups. My comments were addressed entirely towards the politics of the matter. The dems will have a hard time sliming a strong conservative woman, and it redounds to our favor if they try.

Please, no more women, they’re weak on abortion and so-called gay rights. Please Trump, stay away from P.C. choices.

I’d much rather have Mike Lee be on the Court than Trey Gowdy, fwiw. That says nothing of my feelings on the relative merits of Mormonism vs the Southern Baptists movement. But, regardless, as far as the current makeup goes, I don’t think it’s an accident that people from relatively legalistic religious traditions keep being picked for top court positions.

Can someone tell me why most conservative women are more attractive than liberal ones?

1.Substance abuse is not in their lives. They live without cocaine/meth/alcohol/nicotine/sugar/excessive coffee consumption or anything else that would enslave them.

2.They go to bed at a reasonable hour. The medical evidence of the benefits of a 9PM bedtime is piling up and becoming too hard to ignore. Running the streets at all hours of the night ages a person rapidly.

3.They love their husbands and their families. Proverbs 31:15 proclaims this love: "She rises also while it is still night And gives food to her household And portions to her maidens." In this way she is acting according to her nature as a life-giver and is rewarded by their love in return.

There are other reasons, but these probably cover the most ground.

...Britt Grant...She looks appealing

How's this for looking appealing:

If she is not the nominee she could do an episode or two of Hot Bench! It's a show about judicial eye candy.

I was talking about her views. However, she’s certainly easy on the eyes, as are most conservative women.

She’d be the eye bleach as the camera pans the Supreme Court Justices through the “wise latina” and the other dyke and finally to Justice Grant at the next State of the Union address..

Scalia had 9 children of his own. From what I’ve read Coney Barrett is supposed to be an Originalist like Scalia too.

No one speaks for evangelicals.

Evangelicals are difficult to even define.

There aren’t that many second amendment cases in the courts and likely most of the proposed jurists have never had a case.

I would rather trust Trumps instincts on a good pick than what the evangelicals would like to see.

I think Trump is going to want a strong conservative who the Democrats would have a hard time justifying denying approval of. Amy was approved for appeals court judge just last year, by the same crew that will be voting this year.

If there are 25 outstanding candidates, let’s balance things a bit a pick a conservative evangelical Protestant for a change. How many evangelicals are actually on the Court? I think ZERO.

I would love to see Judge Roy Moore there!
