The retirement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy has conservative Christians excited about a huge opportunity to shift American laws on issues like religious freedom and abortion. President Donald Trump has noted he has a list of 25 names as possible Supreme Court candidates, but there's one name that pro-lifers seem to really love.
CBN's Chief Political Correspondent David Brody says evangelical circles are buzzing about Amy Coney Barrett.
"Many of my sources, evangelical in nature, love her. They believe that she is the one that if they had their dream pick that she would be the one," Brody said on the 700 Club Friday. "Barrett has been very outspoken of her Catholic views and God."
Barrett is a mother of seven children and a devout Catholic. At just 46-years-old, Barrett holds promise for a potential decades-long term on the bench. She once clerked for Justice Antonin Scalia, taught law at Notre Dame, and has reported conservative views about protecting religious freedom.
A Barrett nomination could face a very tough fight in the Senate. Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) opposed Barrett vehemently during her Senate confirmation battle for US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Feinstein even implemented a religious test, blasting Barrett for her deep Catholic faith, calling it "dogma."
"When you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you and that's of concern when you come to big issues that large numbers of people have fought for years," Feinstein said.

It’s got to be in the back of someone’s mind: if Breyer retires next, Trump could tip the Supreme Court to a female majority, and do it with two rock solid conservative women who would expose the lefties for years to come. I like the idea of that South Asian feller as well, to replace RBG.

However, it has nothing whatsoever to do with her being Catholic, some of my friends are Catholic, and I don’t hate anyone.
What it does have to do with is a Christian organization, claiming they speak for all evangelicals on somebody that most of us have never heard of.
If I could vote for a Mormon to be president, which I did to defeat Obama, I could certainly vote for a Catholic for the Supreme Court.
Unlike Mormons, at least Catholics believe that God is a triune being, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

As I said in my post, "why take chances?" I'm not "blaming" her, I'm just pointing out that I can't find her views on gun rights. I'm open to reconsideration if she produces solid proof of her 2nd Amendment support.

Being a mother of seven qualifies her as a prolific child producer, not a defender of the constitution. Big difference.

Exactly. If you don’t show strong support for the 2nd Amendment, then you don’t support the Constitution at all. Without gun rights, many of our other God-given rights disappear in short order.
The only mistake the framers of the Constitution made on the 2nd Amendment was not making it the 1st Amendment and the 1st the 2nd to better show the importance of gun rights.

I agree with these sentiments. Any male that is put forward is probably going to have to fight off a "Stormy Daniels" type even if it is totally fabricated (see Clarence Thomas). Having just gone through the vetting process, they will have a harder time attacking Barrett b/c they will have to simply revisit the attacks from last time which did not prevail. As I recall, Feinstein's religious attacks on her were roundly criticized, too.
As far as not putting a woman on the court b/c she "might go squishy", frankly, we have had several men go squishy, too- Souter, Kennedy and even Roberts on the ACA.
This is how we screw this up. We have a dozen and a half candidates with extensive conservative and constitutionalist legal records and we want to select someone just because they’re openly religious? No frickin way. Can we please not Charlie Brown and the football this one for once? Have people really are already forgotten how Kennedy got on the court in the first place? Have people forgotten Souter?
Honestly I don’t even believe the article. I don’t believe evangelicals think that way anymore. I think the media are going to push her because they suspect she may ultimately be less reliable on issues where the catholic church disagrees with the greater conservative movement.
She seems nice don’t get me wrong. But we need to pick someone that we know thinks like us.
I still love you, even though Evangelicals have a puffed up view of their own value, both to God and man.

The two advantages of Barrett —
First, she was on the list of judges that Trump published before the election. So it is easy to say “this is what the people voted for”.
Second, she just finished the nomination process last year for her current judgeship. So, there is very little vetting needed, and all the dirt to be had on her is already found. It will be hard for the democrats who voted for her last year to justify voting against her, there won’t be any weird discoveries that have to be explained, and there won’t be any valid claims to need 4 months to “really find out what is in her past”.
I realize that SC is different than appeals court, but there was little opposition from conservatives to her appeals court nomination.
I don’t care if she is the pick or not, I can see how her pick is a rational one for this particular time and place.
Brett K, that’s another good pick, again on the list, and has served 10 years, so better known. WHich does mean there will be many cases for the left to mislead people about, but from what I see he hasn’t had anything particular out of the ordinary in any rulings, just good solid conservativism.
Which might actually make him an excellent choice for the next retirement — since he is currently on the 2nd most important court, and that court is still leaning left so taking him away means we damage that court until we can get a replacement in place.
