On Wednesday, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement from the nation's highest court. President Donald Trump promised to speedily replace him, and that he would choose someone on the list of 25 candidates he developed to fill the seat vacated by Justice Antonin Scalia. Trump should pick Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah).
I have been a big fan of Lee for a long time. A former Supreme Court law clerk, this senator has taken firm principled stances and presented a strong originalist view of the Constitution. He made Trump's second list, the current one under consideration.
Lee took himself out of the running in September 2016, as he was running for his U.S. Senate seat that year. On Wednesday, he changed his tune. "If somebody asked me if I would consider that, I would not say no," the senator said.
"Mike Lee spoke to reporters in a rare hallway interview about SCOTUS. Asked if he would ever be interested in being considered, he noted he has been a court watcher his whole life, used to watch arguments for fun as a kid. "I would not say no." He added it is Trump's decision."

If confirmed, he would be the first sitting senator named to the Supreme Court since Hugo Black in 1937.
Sen. Ted Cruz , the other former Supreme Court law clerk in the U.S. Senate, threw his support behind Lee Wednesday. "I think the single best choice that President Trump could make to fill this vacancy is Mike Lee," Cruz told Fox News. "The reason why I think he is best choice that President Trump could make is because I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Mike Lee would be faithful to the Constitution and Bill of Rights."

This is not the droid we’re looking for...
One question for Mike Lee: “You claim to be a constitutional conservative; what is your constitutionally-based objection to President Trump?”
...and I agree with YOU 100%....NO, NO, and hell NO, and NO some more!!!...
ANYONE who thinks Mike Lee is SC material is out of their mind!!! His brother Thomas, however, is a totally different person and I would support him, living in Utah, being born and raised here in Utah, I can feel safe in saying I would support Utah Supreme Court Justice Thomas Lee.
Because what the current prophet, seer, and revelator has to say to Lee counts a lot more than the words of the Constitution.

There’s other stuff, like taking bribes and his brother blocking Harry Reid indictment. He can stay in the Senate, but if he comes out from under his rock to try for Supreme Court, he will be toasted to a crisp.
It’s. A. Trap.
He’ll go against Trump, like a duplicate Sessions.
RE: Hell go against Trump, like a duplicate Sessions.
This is not about going against Trump, this is about the constitution and the faithful application of its intent.
RE: Because what the current prophet, seer, and revelator has to say to Lee counts a lot more than the words of the Constitution
And what has the record of Lee as Senator shown? Has he actually gone to his prophet, seer and revelator for advise before he sponsors a bill or votes on an issue?
RE: You claim to be a constitutional conservative; what is your constitutionally-based objection to President Trump?
The correct answer is nothing, as long as he follows the constitution.
How about - no. This is a stupid idea. I posit anyone needing explanation hasn’t paid attention to current events for two years.
Lee and Cruz are not deserving of even being in this conversation. If they had their way, Hilary would be in office today. Never-Trump rodents deserve no quarter.
RE: I posit anyone needing explanation hasnt paid attention to current events for two years.
I’ve paid attention to Mike Lee’s record in the Senate. I see no reason why he isn’t a conservative and a respecter of our constitution.
HELL NO!
Thank you.
I agree and think Lee would be by far the easiest to confirm. Utah has a GOP Governor who could appoint a Republican replacement quickly to the Senate.
NO NO NO...no Mike Lee.
hes a Mormon
He would like Romney more than Trump.
No Mike Lee.
And a moron and a never-Trumper and he cannot be trusted... need I go on?
NO NO NO...no Mike Lee.
