This is right up there with uber lib Austin's ban on plastic bags and ban on arresting blacks for smoking pot and other minor crimes.
But they roll out the welcome mat for illegals.

They could fight pollution by closing and urging patrons to just stay home.

This is what passes for news on CBS in Austin
truly one of the worst TV stations in the country.

I welcome the return of paper straws. In my youth, there was nothing more entertaining than blowing the paper off a straw and hitting my cousin in the face with it. A return to the 50s!

Ill just say no to Stubbs.

Stubbs is a great music venue, but the BBQ is far below the Austin average.

And do they think people will stop drinking? Paper straws are useless and metal or glass straws are dangerous.

Well, straws are for sissies and women anyway so what is the big deal?!
To: bgill
500 million straws per day? That’s ridiculous. That’s more than 1 straw every day for every man, woman and child in the country.
These fake news sources should employ some kind of common sense buffer dude who will flag their propaganda when it goes over the line from fake to absurd. Would help to keep them from looking like total flunkies all the time.

Plastic is a waste product of the petroleum-refining process. As long as the Stubbs folks drive cars, plastic is going to be created. Might as well make it into something useful like...oh... I dont know...plastic straws?
To: bgill
That would be 1.5 straws for EVERY man, woman, and child (plus all those humans who do not identify with the listed categories)in the United States, EVERY DAY.
I am not buying it.

The "no straws" movement is really big all over the world, and I don't really see what's wrong with it. We've got oceans with giant islands of waste plastic in them... There's nothing wrong with business owners making environmentally and bottom-line friendly decisions. Not EVERYTHING that's "green" is red on the inside.

I wonder if Austin will ban all of the Barbeque joints because of the smoke they emit. That would be funny as hell. If it were to ever happen, thank the Lord for Lockhart.

I suggest replacing them with asbestos or lead straws.

Another phony caus du jour for the virtue-posturing set. Remember a few years ago it was plastic six-pack rings? They were going to destroy ocean life as we know it. This week it's straws. Or plastic grocery bags. Or whatever other idiocy becomes trendy for a couple of days.
