Plastic is a waste product of the petroleum-refining process. As long as the Stubbs folks drive cars, plastic is going to be created. Might as well make it into something useful like...oh... I don’t know...plastic straws?

Plastic is a term that has no meaning because there are many types of synthetic compounds called plastic.

Straws can be made of different "plastics" but because of the abundance of fracked natural gas, straws are being made from natural gas, and it is not waste.

Ethane is removed from natural gas and dehydrogenated to produce ethene or ethylene and into polyethylene platic. Or, the propane can removed from nat gas and processed into polypropylene plastic.

Ethanol can also be used as a feedstock to make polyethylene.

The Petroleum product known as naptha, which is not waste, can also be used as feedstock to produce these platics
