For those who remember the issues when the IRS, White House and DOJ organized the post 2010 election “shellacking” targeting of Tea Party groups, the latest discovery from Judicial watch is confirmation of a long-held opinion. John McCain was instrumental in supporting the weaponization of the IRS to target tea party groups.

You may recall 20-25 years ago he was either the lead or was supportive in shutting down Senate hearings on the fate of U.S. military personnel reportedly held captive by Russia beyond the end of WWI.
I recall at the time wondering in light of his family history and indeed his own VN war record, what could possibly be his motivation to deny the families of lost servicemen the opportunity to obtain information that would help to gain closure.
Now looking at his entire record, it seems clear your answer is the best answer.

From what I remember from the time I spent in Annapolis, there is a sewage treatment plant right there on campus.
Those odds are not zero, as you imply. We could quibble over the distinction that OK, the IRS *DOES* perform audits as part of its normal functions. The IRS *MAY* ask for add’l, supplemental documentation from an entity seeking nonprofit status. Whereas these GOPE bastards you speak of probably do not have the ability to “reach into” the FBI or CIA and urge them to conduct surveillance on a US citizen absent clear evidence of a crime. But: Someone like McCain who has been in government forever might plausibly lobby whatever FBI contacts he might have to go after an interloper like Trump; and/or, quietly tell and make clear such contacts that he’d have no objection (to otherwise egregious Constitutional and civil rights violations) should they take an interest in Trump.
Given what we already know about the documented horrific behaviors of the FBI and the pervasive anti-Trump sentiment there was, there shouldn’t be much left to surprise us with from here.

Poor Maureen Reagan was found to have a little tiny spot behind her knee. Melanoma, and she was dead within months.
Lee Atwater was diagnosed with brain cancer in March 1990. He was dead a year later, almost to the day.
Supposedly McCaine was diagnosed with melanoma years ago when it was incurable. What a miracle it was cured.
And now the "brain cancer".
