Those odds are not zero, as you imply. We could quibble over the distinction that OK, the IRS *DOES* perform audits as part of its normal functions. The IRS *MAY* ask for add’l, supplemental documentation from an entity seeking nonprofit status. Whereas these GOPE bastards you speak of probably do not have the ability to “reach into” the FBI or CIA and urge them to conduct surveillance on a US citizen absent clear evidence of a crime. But: Someone like McCain who has been in government forever might plausibly lobby whatever FBI contacts he might have to go after an interloper like Trump; and/or, quietly tell and make clear such contacts that he’d have no objection (to otherwise egregious Constitutional and civil rights violations) should they take an interest in Trump.
Given what we already know about the documented horrific behaviors of the FBI and the pervasive anti-Trump sentiment there was, there shouldn’t be much left to surprise us with from here.
