(I don't have a source link - I heard it at the top of the 10:00 AM hour)
That would be the ultimate boondoggle. If he does that, they will know they can beat him down with pressure anytime he does something they don't like. Things will go right back to large numbers of people taking advantage of catch and release bringing children illegally across the border on dangerous journeys, abusing the asylum laws, and more child trafficking. This is exactly what the Democrats want by the way. They don't care about the consequences open borders have on kids such as those being trafficked, unaccompanied minors, smugglers, etc. They don't want to fix anything. They want status quo. Schumer is demanding Trump do this.
It would be an embarrassment for the White House which first of all has handled this poorly from a communications perspective. If this is your policy, you know it is going to get a reaction like this. You should have an A game communications department ready to set the narrative. Instead, Trump did not do a good job articulating it by just blaming the Democrats without explanation. The only person that explained it well was Neilson, but that was days too late when everyone from Trump to his surrogates should have been sticking to that explanation. Meanwhile, the communication's staff continues to allow the narrative to be out there that Trump put's kids in cages when he's using the same facilities that Obama used. No one has even bothered to put out comparison photos. Trump should have Tweeted them.
The best way to handle this - sign the Ted Cruz bill. Support it and vote on it. This will end the catch and release loophole, will add more judges, and keep the families together. I know they want comprehensive reform, but the Cruz Bill deals with a specific problem and can end this situation. It will end the bad PR with midterms coming up, and the kids will be happy. Work on everything else after.
Trump really needs to do an address to the nation free of media spin on the immigration crisis too.
A court will immediately overturn it and they will say that was Trumps intention, he never meant it. Then they will roll out more celebrities to cry and go right on with 24/7 shock and outrage.
It isnt policy. It is law enacted by Congress. Trump cant EO the law away.

Exactly right. It’s a law from the Clinton/Obama years. But Trump needs to be shrewd and smart enough to issue this emergency order all the while grandstanding on how inhumane the Clinton/Obama law is.
If he keeps repeating “Clinton/Obama” and reminding the nation that this all goes back to Clinton and Obama - he’ll be fine.
Mr. President, please don’t do that.
It’s a trap set up by Senate Minority Leader Schumer.
If he plays this right, thats how it should happen.
The Reno Settlement is the reason why the kids are separated, theyll be violating that law if signs EO but thats what the libs want him to do.
Sign an EO, declare hes usurping the law & those poor toddlers are now locked up with scary adults.
I have to admit I'm pleased that more FReepers are increasingly pointing directly to the media campaign, rather than emotionally reacting to the (manufactured) message.
If we view this conflict as a (cold) civil war, then an honest appraisal and assessment of the enemy's resources and capabilities is necessary. Since the progibs control the major propaganda instruments, it's imperative for them to utilize it to further their cause.
Becoming angry or reacting to leftist lies is about as effective as becoming angry when the Nazis counter-attacked at Bastogne. It's what the enemy is supposed do: it's their duty to attack with their most effective weapons. Our job is to figure out counter-measures to defeat their primary weapon(s). From there, we must continue the campaign until peace is once again restored.
If they can’t find a parent or relative, then they are declared wards of the state and sent to their country of origin...
This is the lifeblood they wanted. They haven’t been more energized in a long time. This will fuel them to the polls.
Hope it includes an EO to fund the wall.
and reunite them in their home Country ?
That’s right, Mr. Trump, march to the beat of the Democrat drum.
Just this one time, they won’t do it again, I promise.
What Trump should do, is sign an Executive Order that implements EXACTLY what the Cruz bill, that the Democrats refused to support, would have done. That way, Democrats will be forced to explain why they wanted to continue to separate children from their families.
He needs to say he took an oath to uphold the laws of this country. This is not a monarchy and he is bound by law to uphold the laws that congress makes.
In reason he can’t sign one authorizing this along with partial funding for the “emergency wall” that will help solve the problem. A two pronged approach. Why not slide some “deal-making” into the exec order?.
We can be assured this President is not going to stand for the left and their lies.
I expect him to say yes, an EO can be prepared to unite real families but here’s the deal ...
This is Trump, not Bush.
i can see doing something with an expiration date as a direct challenge to Congress to do its work. for once and for all.
“That wont stop the rage.”
Nothing will stop leftist rage until they are beaten soundly in the arena of ideas.
I really hope Trump doesn’t give up by signing an executive order. While it wouldn’t be on the order of a “Read my Lips” moment, it’ll be akin to putting a band aid on a bleeding wound.
Trump needs to do what other Freepers have suggested ... take it directly to the people via an address to the nation, state his case and explain why this is happening, and propose the Cruz bill as a sane, and more importantly, LEGAL measure to PROPERLY change the law. This “hack legislation” by EO has got to end.
If Democrats are serious, they’ll accept these terms. The hyenas of the Democrats will scream and thrash, but just enough in the Senate will sign on given their reelection prospects.
Knee jerk reactions are typical these days.
1. The proposal is not a cave in. The proposal is to reverse the liberal court case that caused the parents to be separated in the first place.
2. Trump is not going to cave on the main issue of border security. He may fund unique ways to proceed toward his goal but when has this man given up on a stated goal?
The non-issue of separating parents and children is a red herring. Democrats and open-borders Republicans are using this as a propaganda piece and bargaining chip to achieve their real aim, which is to stop the detention of illegal immigrants altogether, with or without their children.
He has to do something. The RATS are killing him with this narrative and it is working in their favor.
