Reuniting North Korea and South Korea could cost trillions of dollars

President Donald Trump's historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore on Tuesday, following on the heels of the two Korean leaders meeting a little over two months ago, has raised the question of whether North Korea and South Korea would ever reunite.

Analysts say unifying North and South Korea could cost a trillion dollars under the best of circumstances and take several decades. The final price tag would also depend largely on what the catalyst for reunification is.

Some analyses put the cost of reunification at far more -- closer to $3 trillion. Experts argue that much of the cost surrounding any scenario for Korean unification would depend on whether the countries decided to converge gradually or if a chaotic event occurs. If the reform were carefully planned and followed by a peaceful union, it would be far less expensive than if North Korea's economy collapsed or a war broke out, requiring massive reconstruction costs.....

We should be careful about wanting to build a nation. It would be enough to have peace and they keep their own government. Hopefully influence better human rights, but not to expect Kim not being the leader of his country. Let’s create peace, let’s help the people of North Korea become more prosperous.

The Commie left hates this man, not hates, hates is being too kind..they DESPISE this man, for breathing our air, for being our President..from the Commie media down the line..they should be ROOTING for peace, ROOTING for President Trump to be successful, if this were Obama instead Id be rooting for him to be successful too(As long as no money changed hands of course) but NO, the left hates Trump with such a passion they want him to fail, they want America to fail because they hate America, they hate our freedom..just last week they were saying that Un was the “Logical” one..now they are back to calling him Hitler. I dont care if Trump gives Un some pats on the back, who cares..this is ALL about denuclearizing thats IT..but the commie media says “Well he didnt bring up the human rights abuses” you can’t talk about 60+ years of oppression in 2 hours for God’s sake..yesterday was all about giving up those nukes, everything else will come in time

The current plan seems to be to make NK a Singapore type market and leave the reunification to the future. That’s okay, defuses everybody.

This is the same crap that the media whined about when president Reagan was calling for the demolition of the Berlin wall.
These idiots really need to find a new play book.

If we could just eliminate the United States we could save the world some $19 T a year, that being our GDP.

These commentators are idiots. Growing the economy and thereby improving the domestic life of the NK citizens is not a cost on the rest of the world.

Economic idiots!

Not so sure that ‘reunification’ is the right way to go.

Keeping them as separate entities would suit me better.

IF they try unification, then N Korean plotters could take over all the defenses South Korea has built up.

>Should the US and Canada unite just because we have the same language, Germany and Austria?

Didn’t Germany try that about 80 years ago?

Nonsense. It won’t cost a dime. A surge in investment is not a “cost.”

Reminds me of the quote Dennis Miller made about German Reunification, “I view this in much the same way I view a possible Dean Martin - Jerry Lewis reconciliation: I never really enjoyed their work, and I’m not sure I need to see any of their new stuff.”
