President Trump said he likely will support a congressional effort to end the federal ban on marijuana, a major step that would reshape the pot industry and end the threat of a Justice Department crackdown.
Trump’s remarks put him sharply at odds with Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions on the issue. The bill in question, pushed by a bipartisan coalition, would allow states to go forward with legalization unencumbered by threats of federal prosecution.
Trump made his comments to a gaggle of reporters Friday morning just before he boarded a helicopter on his way to the G-7 summit in Canada. His remarks came the day after the bipartisan group of lawmakers proposed their measure.
One of the lead sponsors is Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), who is aligned with Trump on several issues but recently has tangled with the administration over the Justice Department’s threatened crackdowns on marijuana.
“I support Sen. Gardner,” Trump said when asked about the bill. “I know exactly what he’s doing. We’re looking at it. But I probably will end up supporting that, yes.”

I was on anti-depressants for 20+ years. Ativan & insomnia for 8 years. Follow doctor’s orders. Went to therapy & just got worse over the years.
I started using cannabis in 2015. By the end of 2015 I was off the anti-depressants.
By the end of 2016 I was off the ativan.
By the end of 2017 I was off the insomnia meds.
Since 2015 I’ve lost 94 lbs of flab due to increased energy & exercise. I’m happy & thankful I can experience joy after decades of misery.
So stick your ‘diagnosis’ back into the rear-end from which it came, k?

From a procedural standpoint, you're wrong - legislatures repeal laws all the time.
From a practical standpoint, the step has already been taken ... 8 states have already legalized recreational marijuana.
No they haven't, they just voted to ignore Federal law, they didn't change the law.

As a physician that gets to treat potheads and the mother of an addicted child I hate it as well. It seems society is literally hell bent on legalizing it. We will reap the rewards of this decision for a long time
Alcohol and pot are harmful to those who use them - their prohibition is harmful even to nonusers. Freedom works, prohibition doesn't.
Supposing your nonrandom observations extrapolate to the larger population ... what of it? Harm is harm.
If you believe that then insist all the Constitution be fully enforced that will then let all of it be interpreted by 1 or 2 Black Robed kings. The reason the Constitution isn't protecting us is exactly what John Adams stated.

But I suppose you have watched a lot of situation comedies, movies, and other MSM shows that have made you into an expert.
There’s a well-established link between the churches that oppose letting counties go wet and the guys who run the liquor stores and bars just over the county line.
I am very glad that you have been able to give up 20+ years of using psychotropic drugs and therapy following “doctors orders”. Congratulations on losing close to 100 pounds as well. Long term marijuana use is more typically associated with needing to start using psychotropic medications and weight gain rather than the other way around as in your case.
I responded to people having difficulties related to their marijuana use for 25 years. During all this time I do not remember meeting one person who had a positive outcome to a medical or psychological condition by using marijuana. But strangely on this conservative forum I have met half a dozen people or more who claim that marijuana has “saved their life”.
John Adams was sometimes overly dogmatic with some of his observations, such as the one above, IMHO.
Another thing Adams said, using a similar theme, was:

I have always felt the above John Adams quote was also rather bombastic—even balderdash, quite frankly. With that said, I maintain enormous enormous respect for this critically important Founder.
The Constitution is a secular document, and has proven more than adequate—even if routinely ignored—to governing a wide array of People who encapsulate various (or no) religions, cultures, and differing moral sensibilities. The First Amendment, of course, also protects, for instance, Atheists and Secular Humanists, who are obviously not part of the "moral and religious and moral People" which Adams opined the Constitution was "made only for"—but millions of which are now citizens of the United States.
Make no mistake—I am from precisely that "moral and religious" tradition which Adams spoke of. But the Constitution is so much closer to ideal than any one of the individual Founders could imagine, it's almost miraculous that it has been wholly adequate to governing such an incredibly diverse People—again, even though it is so frequently perverted or disregarded altogether.
Among other things, John Adams was a bit of a monarchist, infatuated with pomp, ceremony, and appearance, and he personally envisioned more of that type of system for the fledgling United States—especially regarding the office of President.

Poor fellar. I remember the day when I discovered 1st hand cannabis is medicine and how shocked I was to learn everything I had been taught by authoritarian prohibitionists about cannabis was a lie. :)
But I got over my pride and have remained thankful to God in Heaven for this amazing medicine that has given me my life back.

I’m remind of Reagan Administration official Lyn Nofziger. A stronger opponent of medical marijuana you could not meet. And then his daughter got cancer. A battlefield conversion ensued, as his daughter turned to cannabis to deal with the side effects of chemo. Something peculiar about the human race that makes it difficult to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes until we’re personally affected.
We open up marijuana for the asking and using with no rules, then it is coke, crack, and finally meth. We will just sell the crap beside the aspirin, nasal sprays and tooth paste at Wally World. We lost the war on drugs the day we started making concessions. Slap the death penalty on those caught sneaking it into the country, growing it in the woods and that would have stopped it. We used to have the death penalty without 800 appeals. We had it for shooting cops. Now we have hundreds of cops shot every stinking year. Naw, our problems are self inflicted. We have liberalized everything. EVERYTHING!!! The call themselves socialists, liberals, progressives. What they are, are stinking communists. Bound and bred to destroy the nation. They are winning.
