That's the point of most prohibitions, to enrich the government and organized criminals (lots of overlap). "The prohibition industry."
No, its a one-way trip. Too many people, too much money. It will never be repealed.
Rumor has it the Marijuana Dog Sniffing Lobby has pulled out all the stops.
“Free drug states get consumed by their enemies no matter how powerful they once were:”
Marijuana was legal in the US until the 1930s and we did just fine back then.
Hell, even whiskey is legal now days. And that stuff is way bad news.
I will say, once “medical marijuana” has been legalized, you may as well legalize it across the board. I saw that in action, and its a scam. Every other preacher’s kid has his marijuana card. Just legalize it, and skip the hypocrisy.
Go ahead and legalize it. Were not talking about heroine or meth or cocaine. People dont die from overdosing on pot.
Marijuana is not opium ... Hell, it's not even alcohol.
As I said (modulo a copy-paste error): "From a practical standpoint, the step has already been taken ... 8 states have already legalized recreational marijuana. "
Do pot smokers vote?
Good!
now onto cocaine and meth...HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN!
Use getting rid of the federal ban on marijuana as a vehicle for a broader 10th Amendment restoration act. Limit all federal criminal jurisdiction to actual interstate commerce, i.e., transactions between two or more states and not transactions that are wholly within a single state.
If someone wants to grow marijuana in California and sell it to residents of California then it should be entirely up to the state of California to make it legal or illegal. If someone grows marijuana in California and distributes it outside of California then and only then should it be a matter for the federal government.
I live in the mountains of southeast Kentucky and have watched the scourge of illegal drugs destroy families and lives. I have a couple of relatives who are what I call lost souls. Each day you hear they haven’t been found dead is by the grace of God with them. They both started with weed.
I hope the powers that be know what the long term consequences of this may be. I suspect they don’t and only see tax revenue streams from this and votes. Ironically I expect the use of pot will eventually get a negative view in society down the road, not because it is a drug but because of the damage the health care system is going to start finding with the destroyed lungs of pot smokers. They will be the new tobacco smokers in our society eventually.
Distressing how many self-proclaimed “conservatives” refuse to get this.
I’ve gotten into pretty heated discussions with the Baptist professors at the local Baptist university when the city was voting to finally go wet (yep, we still have prohibition of alcohol down here). I tried to argue that it is a personal responsibility thing for adults. They kept saying they didn’t want their loved ones dying in drunk driver crashes - no matter how many times I told them and supplied links to information to support the simple fact that more people, per capita, die in alcohol related accidents in dry counties than in wet counties.
For them it was about safety (and that was even false) while for me it was about freedom.
narcotics officers.
Yep, it appears their concern is their money flow from govt and the dealers.
No, but someone impaired can get behind the wheel and do it. And what makes pot a big problem is that theres no scientific consensus on a base blood level of THC that can prove impairment. So prosecuting drivers is very problematic.
We’re putting the cart before the horse.
“now onto cocaine and meth”
The idea of “gateway drug” has been thoroughly discredited. It’ the refuge of simple minds.
we were a different people back then....
now we are a nation of sloths...
Thank you.
As a former pothead, I despise marijuana.
Marijuana is bad for the health? So are alcohol, tobacco, and fast food - should those not be legal?
As for Societal Impact, the article hilariously cites "Colorado Drug Overdoses Up in Almost Every County and Ahead of National Average" - which says not one word about marijuana.
