Anthony Bourdain, a gifted storyteller and writer who took CNN viewers around the world, has died. He was 61. CNN confirmed Bourdain's death on Friday and said the cause of death was suicide.

A recent news item reports that suicide rates are up by a third in the last twenty years, especially among those aged 45 to 64.

The Boomers are not handling the later chapters of life well. Sadly, no surprise.

Most Freepers seem to fall into this age range. Hope we’ll be doing better than this.

Politics aside, I always enjoyed his books and found him entertaining. Leaves behind an 11 year old daughter. That’s what I find unforgiveable.

"Suicide is a growing problem in the United States. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a survey Thursday showing suicide rates increased by 25% across the United States over nearly two decades ending in 2016."

I did not know this. IMO, this is very odd. We lead far better lives day to day than our fore-bearers. In terms of material things we have it better than ever. Medically, we live longer lives and have less pain into our old age than they. Kings and Queens from 120 years ago would marvel at the day to day possessions we all consider normal. Yet we are killing ourselves at a greater pace than they are.

To me, it points to our spiritual vapidness in comparison to them. It's the only thing that explains the above statistic.

When I saw the headline, my first thought was drugs or booze. He seemed to have substance abuse issues. Suicide however isn’t a surprise either.

That's probably the case. They'd reached the pinnacle of their careers and were depressed that it was "finis".

There are no coincidences. Three suicides in 4 days. More will come out on how everything is interconnected. I lift up in prayer anyone that is suffering from suicidal thoughts and tell them the Healer is ready for them. Jesus Chirist died for us and was raised on the third day.
