MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -
Two men were shot and killed while trying to burglarize a residence in the Colonial Acres neighborhood, according to Memphis Police Department.
The shooting happened Friday evening on Myrna Lane near the intersection of Willow Road.
Both of the men were pronounced dead at the scene.
The homeowner, who asked not to be identified for his safety, said when he arrived home, the men were already inside.
"I see my house being ransacked and the dog was still going hysterical in the cage," he said. "When he saw me he notified the other individual that was with him, 'hey, they are here.'"
That's the moment he said when the suspected burglars pulled out guns, but he was able to get to a hall closet to get his.
"I had my own personal AK-47," he said.
The homeowner admits it's not the first time there's been a shooting at his home. Police markings show where the home was shot up less than a year ago.
"I don't know what's going on but I know I'm going to defend my life to the best of my ability," he said.
MPD identified the two men who were shot and killed as 28-year-old Azell Witherspoon and 17-year-old Demond Robinson.
"These boys need their father and need some type of discipline. They out here without any fear," the homeowner said.
He said he did regret the loss of life, but "it was either me or them."

I wish I had the link, but there was a great vid of Marines or Army shooting up some typical US construction. They’d escalate from siding/drywall, to brick plus drywall, to block plus drywall. None of it was stopping rifle rounds.
You are probably right. If the home owner was white, the headlines would go like this: “Racist, evil, privileged, white supremacist, white sheeted KKK member, cold bloodedly murders two innocent, unarmed people of color, with an evil, illegal assault rifle, which he bought, because of a loop hole, at a gun show. Two great young men, who loved their moms, loved their dogs, were aspiring rappers, that were turning their lives around, who thought his house was a convenience store, where they could buy skittles and cigars. We here at the nightly news station, highly encourage rioters to take revenge on those evil white racist POSs.”
Do you suppose the headlines would sound like that, if the homeowner was a white dude?

Agreed, that’s where it starts to get interesting. Though you might be surprised at what a .50 will do. And if a single won’t do it, what several will chew through is impressive.

I was more worried about stray bullets and an attempt by illegals getting into the house. We even have a safe room inside with the same kind of walls.
The first couple of people breaking into that room will become the honor guard in Hades.
Oh yeah, it was more just a comment on what a .50 can do. What you’ve got is serious business.
I wish I could find that video. I saw it, probably from here, maybe 10 years or more ago at this point. It was a U.S. military-produced study / training video. It really gave you some solid info on what is cover, and what is just concealment. And a brick house is, ultimately, just concealment if you are dealing with rifle fire.
