Yup...all 300 people spoke it in Texas before Americans settled the territory.

You choose to speak Spanish, go to Mexico or Spain. This is America, and whether it’s the law or not English it is our cultural language. I am sick and tired of people trying to shove Spanish down our throat’s.

By the way, show me a single Spanish or French speaking country beyond Spain and France directly, that are not Third World cesspools. There are none. Absolutely none. It should be obvious to everyone in the world, that if you want to become civilized, become modern, you need to shed those ignorant languages. You need to shed the ignorant cultures that are also part of that, especially in places like Mexico.

Simple fact is Spanish cannot be a native language, it is 100% European.

Ay, por favor-esta mierda otra vez? These people are never happy, are they? Speaking a 2nd language when doing business, dealing with tourists, or just for the hell of it is not a big deal-if it were, learning programs like Babble, Rosetta Stone, etc wouldn’t sell enough to stay in business...

Where I’m from-West/Southwest Texas ranch country close to the border-nearly everyone speaks Spanish as a 2nd language, no matter what their ethnicity is-small trucking/hauling businesses carry livestock and freight in both directions, after all. As a ranch kid and a Latina, I learned Spanish in early childhood at home from parents like siblings and cousins did.The rural area I live in now is a tourist destination for Mexicans on vaca from Northern Mexico from Easter weekend into the fall-nearly all of us who deal with tourists in our businesses speak Norteno Spanish-during the Obama non-economy, those Mexicans were the only people around who could afford a real vacation anyway...

Also, when I was a child, speaking/reading/writing a 2nd language was a mark of a good education-MrT5’s family lived mostly in Quebec, but he was from Seattle-everyone in that family spoke Quebecois as a 2nd language whether in Canada or Washington...

And for the record: when we speak Español, we’re not talking about you. We don’t even care about you.

For the record: this shows that those who wish to retain Spanish are identifying themselves as a racist anti-American population that has no interest in being united with the English speaking native population.

I've traveled extensively...worldwide...for decades. One thing I've found to be irrefutably true is that wherever you go in North America,Europe,Asia,Africa and South America the more prosperous you are the more likely it is that you're fluent in English.

This is just nbcnews liars trying to suggest that the language of the United States “all American language” has ever been Spanish.
In their evil they know damn well that is not the truth.

Well, it’s true that Spanish was here before English, and that the oldest permanent European settlements on the continent, including in what is now the US, are Spanish.

However, this particular section of the area, now known as the US, was established by English speakers, and English then became the language of trade and learning. An official language was never established, although at the time of the Constitution, the Germans in Pennsylvania attempted to have German made the official language of the US.

I think the Spanish heritage of the South needs more attention, since Andrew Jackson and others attempted to wipe out the Spanish, Indian and Catholic influence on the Spanish Borderlands, particularly in Florida. In fact attacks on Florida were constant, and the early 18th century British attacks (by British colonists from South Carolina and Georgia) on the Franciscan mission chain in Florida resulted in the British sending thousands of Indians off to slavery on the British Caribbean sugar plantations and the deaths of many, many Mission Indians and Spanish clergy, all non-combatants. The British were very aggressive and vicious in their unnecessary war against the Spanish.

That said, I grew up in NYC where there were millions of immigrants who spoke to each other in their native languages in places where they were very concentrated. What helped the second generation speak English as their main language was the policy of the schools, which at that time was simply to teach immigrant children in English and teach them to speak English. This meant they could easily integrate into the mainstream, since speaking any other language, even one spoken by a large number of people (such as Spanish or Chinese) does not permit you to move out of the ghetto.

The problem is that the Dems went to this “bilingual education” model - which is essentially monolingual, and that language is the immigrants’ original native language with a few words of broken English. This guaranteed that the Dems would try to keep it going because it gave Dem politicians a captive, dependent group of people who could never get out of Dem clutches and into the mainstream - because they didn’t speak English, the mainstream language.

So don’t blame foreign language speakers, blame the educational policies that have made these people unable to speak English.

This is just more Mexican Supremacist BS from Arellano, the resident Mexicans-Uber-Alles propagandist at the Orange County Times which has become a shadow of it’s Reaganesque past.

To the Mexicans, Americans are weak, and thus should be taken advantage of: they would neither let us occupy their land nor flout their nationality by refusing to speak Spanish in their country.

The fact that we allow them to means their colonization continues without being impeded - and they assume that if we let that happen, it should.

It is an enemy invasion and attempted takeover that should be met with armed force. Our government now has a small amount of military on our border with them, but it needs ten times as many and should be on a war footing.

Why, if Spanish is real Americana, is English the language of the world when commerce is the object?

People who think all history started today, such as NBC, haven't the slightest clue.

English is the language of the world thanks to that tiny island in the North Atlantic, that tiny Northern European COUNTRY that built the world's greatest empire. Yes, it was built on colonization for which I have little time, despite that I am a product of that colonization.

More importantly, it was built on commerce and freedom i.e. capitalism. I'm also a product of that contribution to history. The British Empire during the Enlightenment spawned the Greatest Culture to ever inhabit this planet, even if it took our first Civil War aka the American Revolution to give birth to that culture. Walter Williams has stated that capitalism is the only empire builder in history that makes emperors only of people catering to the desires of other people, not themselves.

MY CULTURE created the greatest empire builders in history even though modern emperors don't appreciate that culture.

Spanish could have, at one time, been crucial to world development. Spain blew it two times.

The first time the puppeteers in Spain thought gold and silver were the goal of humans and only judged their progeny by how much gold and silver could be sent to Madrid.

The other time was when the English sunk the Spanish Armada in the English Channel.

People who talk about Spanish as the important language in the land of Amerigo Vespucci do so because they want to diminish the contribution of the United States to the world while they want to transform the modern United States into a third world country.
