Is it dangerous to speak Spanish in public in Trump's America? Well, sí! Just this month, we've seen a lawyer threaten to call ICE after he overheard people in a restaurant in Manhattan speak in Spanish, and a Border Patrol agent in Montana detain two Mexican-American women for 40 minutes because he heard the bilingual women chatting en español, because the language is very unheard of up here, according to la migra man.

BS. Spanish was spoken in Kali, Texas, and Florida. Thats about it. The rest was English. Very few Spanish speakers were in the rest of the western US.
><
You forgot Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona. Spanish was spoken before English in many parts of those areas. So was French.
It seems we have two options
Make America Great Again or Make America Mexico Again
And of course, broadcast all in Spanish.
(An entire generation of broadcasters fired because they did not speak Spanish!)
Well hell, NBC....
How do you say “Kiss my azz” in Spanish????
Leftist Propaganda Translator = Happily except non-educated. low skilled Mexicans into your neighborhoods, give them Housing, welfare, medical care, drivers licenses, education, and say ‘Gracias, K-Street overlords” with a smile on your face.
Spanish is an incredibly inefficient language.
Very few Spanish speakers were in those territories. There were many languages spoken including English. So much so, that it is not correct to try to lay claim that they were Spanish speaking territories.
Mexico laid claim to those territories but it did not have much if any presence there.
“If the zeros over at NBC really believe this, Why are they teaching their kids in Spanish?”
If they really believe this why doesn’t NBC broadcast in Spanish only?
Oh just Efff U, NBC. What a box of tools.
Yup...all 300 people spoke it in Texas before Americans settled the territory.
Its a song. Besame Gullo.
And German. The official language of the United States was almost German.
You choose to speak Spanish, go to Mexico or Spain. This is America, and whether its the law or not English it is our cultural language. I am sick and tired of people trying to shove Spanish down our throats.
That statement from the author has to be one of the most ignorant things I've heard regarding English. One of the reasons English has become the de facto universal language (e.g. in IT) is its ability to absorb words from other languages in an almost Borg-like manner.
Another attempt at reconquista?
Making English the official public language makes it equally easy for all legal foreign immigrants. They can count on being able to converse at any public function.
These so called liberals ought to be tutoring people in English. But that would reduce the demand for public accommodation in Spanish. Offering alternatives to English is a nicety, and there is no problem making it common as English is in China. But one is jolly sure to see Chinese in everything there too — as is logical for that country. Why isn’t it enough to see Spanish treated in the USA like English is in China? As a voluntary convenience?
By the way, show me a single Spanish or French speaking country beyond Spain and France directly, that are not Third World cesspools. There are none. Absolutely none. It should be obvious to everyone in the world, that if you want to become civilized, become modern, you need to shed those ignorant languages. You need to shed the ignorant cultures that are also part of that, especially in places like Mexico.
Simple fact is Spanish cannot be a native language, it is 100% European.
What language was the United States Constitution written in?
Standard liberal revisionist Marxist deconstructionist BS.
Ay, por favor-esta mierda otra vez? These people are never happy, are they? Speaking a 2nd language when doing business, dealing with tourists, or just for the hell of it is not a big deal-if it were, learning programs like Babble, Rosetta Stone, etc wouldn’t sell enough to stay in business...
Where I’m from-West/Southwest Texas ranch country close to the border-nearly everyone speaks Spanish as a 2nd language, no matter what their ethnicity is-small trucking/hauling businesses carry livestock and freight in both directions, after all. As a ranch kid and a Latina, I learned Spanish in early childhood at home from parents like siblings and cousins did.The rural area I live in now is a tourist destination for Mexicans on vaca from Northern Mexico from Easter weekend into the fall-nearly all of us who deal with tourists in our businesses speak Norteno Spanish-during the Obama non-economy, those Mexicans were the only people around who could afford a real vacation anyway...
Also, when I was a child, speaking/reading/writing a 2nd language was a mark of a good education-MrT5’s family lived mostly in Quebec, but he was from Seattle-everyone in that family spoke Quebecois as a 2nd language whether in Canada or Washington...
Only speak Spanish and see what kind of job you get.
