In Portland, Oregon, organizers of the “Reparations Happy Hour” invited black, brown and indigenous people to a bar and handed them $10 bills as they arrived, a small but symbolic gift mostly funded by white people who were asked not to attend.

Good grief. I was rather sarcastically saying I’ll support reparations to people who were *actually slaves*. That’s it. People walking around today with a chip on their shoulder are owed nothing. But, if you find a 180-year-old former slave, maybe we’ll give them something. But, maybe not, since they’ve had a long time to make it on their own since the 1860s.

Thanks for understanding. Sometimes, it’s not even worth posting.

I have a better idea. I want to have a happy hour for all the white people who have been victims of black crime and black people can fund it.

You want to to play collective guilt games? then fine, lets play.

Your point was well made. I was taking the opportunity to remind people that thousands of blacks owned slaves. Those very people who walk around with a chip on their shoulder are descendants of slave owners.

Read my post again and try to understand.

The point was, the very people who want reparations have ancestors who were slave owners.

BTW - your screen name auto-corrects to rests.

Ah gee, I’d sure like to but I can’t seem to find my wallet that has all my white privilege in it. (eyeroll)

Okay, I’m sorry and thank you for the clarification.

Yeah, there was an early Republican congressman named Robert Smalls who freed himself and then owned slaves. Kind of weird. He was an interesting guy, even if that’s pretty distasteful.

Yesterday, someone was complaining about how racist the “2/3 a person” thing was (3/5 is what it really was, of course). HOW can they not know that that was a compromise to limit the power of the slave states? I can’t even deal with these people.
