Nanny-state-imposing left-wing billionaire Michael Bloomberg is now on video admitting how much he likes to raise taxes on poor people, calling such tax hikes a good thing. For years, Bloomberg has personally funded and promoted all sorts of regressive taxes and regulations in an attempt to push people around. He uses the coercive power of the government to force people to live their lives as he sees fit.
So here is Bloomberg on stage with another global mandarin, Christine Lagarde of the International Monetary Fund. He refers to low income individuals as those people and then takes a shot at coal miners and the U.S. military. He clearly reveals his arrogant, bullying worldview. The entire thing is bad, but we've bolded a few of the most obnoxious sentences:
Michael Bloomberg: Some people say, well, taxes are regressive. But in this case, yes they are. That's the good thing about them because the problem is in people that don't have a lot of money. And so, higher taxes should have a bigger impact on their behavior and how they deal with themselves. So, I listen to people saying 'oh we don't want to tax the poor. Well, we want the poor to live longer so that they can get an education and enjoy life. And that's why you do want to do exactly what a lot of people say you don't want to do.
The question is do you want to pander to those people? Or do you want to get them to live longer? There's just no question. If you raise taxes on full sugary drinks, for example, they will drink less and there's just no question that full sugar drinks are one of the major contributors to obesity and ...

Is decreasing or eliminating the Earned Income Credit viewed as “raising taxes on the poor”?
I AGREE!! EVERYONE should pay SOMETHING, even if its only a $100.00!! EVERYONE needs some SKIN IN THE GAME...EVERYONE!
I really think that President Donald J. Trump is about the only billionaire in America who is not also a psychopath.
Simple tax plan.
Gross income x 0.06 = your tax obligation
Easy (for most) and inexpensive to figure.
Of course, this would put a whole bunch of tax attorneys and cpas out of work probably.
Actually, you make a good case for your position. Makes sense and worth discussing at some point.
(Your tag line is right on, btw)
Ask any tax preparer at the HR Blocks, Liberty, Jackson Hewitt and they will tell you . . .the EITC is a scam, and the recipients know how to game the system
Everyone must feel the burn of the excessive welfare state.
Indeed. In many cases no tax is paid at all, and they get a government check.
Hmmmmm. Sounds a lot like “redistribution of wealth” to me.
That’s it and more . . . it’s buying votes with this scam, disguised as “helping low income workers”
And you know damn well, they file early and get that check, run off to Best Buy or Costco etc to buy electronics. They don’t stick it in the bank for a rainy day, or a college fund or a down payment on a home.
As I said on a different thread earlier today ... Even a homeless guy living under a highway bridge actually HAS a bridge to live under. Shouldn't he pay his "fair share" for that bridge?
It is a scam. I know of one layabout that does a few odd jobs here and there, but mainly mooches off family most of the time. But come tax time he gets a big kiss in the mail from Uncle Sam!
Multiply that by thousands (millions?) and add on various welfare programs and you have lots of able-bodied people getting by on little to no effort while those of us who do work for a living struggle to make ends meet.
I want safety nets for the disabled and the truly needy. But not for thirty-somethings who just don’t feel like being productive members of society.
Although,I despise Bloomberg,it is true that everyone in our nation does have to have “skin in the game”.
Well, that is very likely indeed.
We always knew dems use taxes as a means of rewarding or punishing behavior. He just comes out and says so.
Taxes are how dems force their moral ideology onto everyone.
Which is why they never care if the taxes ever really pay for what the cover story rationalization is for the taxes.
I have a cousin that works. Doesnt make a lot. She claims 1or 2 of her daughters kids as living with her and gets a huge check back every year. Shell be broke within 1 1/2 wks and borrowing money for her electric bill. If you ask her what she did with all that money she gets indignant. She really really needed that new dining room set, etc.
I agree, everyone needs skin in the income tax game. I support a voting restriction on those receiving government charitable welfare (but not earned SS) payments.
Bloomberg is the classic lefty control freak—lobotomy is the only known cure.
Bloomberg is a fascist. He believes it his place to tell others how to live using the power of government to do so.
As for skin in the game, I think you should have to be a net contributor to vote. You can either take welfare and medicaid and all the other handouts we give to poor people OR you can vote. You should not be able to do both. You should not be able to vote yourself other people’s money.
Well, when you tax something, you get less of it, and when you subsidize something, you get more of it.
