At the age of 46, DeWayne Johnson is not ready to die. But with cancer spread through most of his body, doctors say he probably has just months to live. Now Johnson, a husband and father of three in ( California), hopes to survive long enough to make Monsanto take the blame for his fate.
On 18 June, Johnson will become the first person to take ( the global seed and chemical company) to trial on allegations that it has spent decades hiding the cancer-causing dangers of its popular Roundup herbicide products – and his case has just received a major boost.
Last week Judge Curtis Karnow (issued an order) clearing the way for jurors to consider not just scientific evidence related to what caused Johnson’s cancer, but allegations that Monsanto suppressed evidence of the risks of its weed killing products. Karnow ruled that the trial will proceed and a jury would be allowed to consider possible punitive damages.

It’s probably been labled in Cali for years as being known to cause cancer. In Cali. Just like the label on my garden hose and garden shovel. Good thing I got a couple gallons of concentrate in the shed. Now, moving on to di-hydrogen monoxide and it’s dangers.

Shades of Rachel Carson and DDT. There is “no free lunch!” Everyone should read the “side effects” of the BP drugs they are taking. I use Roundup sparingly, because it’s better than risking my home to a grass fire.
I’m open to examination of any chemical exposure risk.
But I’m not a nutter tree hugger either.
My family farms, there are all kinds of risks in that. It has always been so.
The real damage for huge chemical/seed companies? Concentration of control of the agriculture industry by destruction of smaller scale private agriculture operations.
If they are gone (the numbers are very small already) food/fiber will be much more expensive.
The chemical/seed companies have bought politicians for many years. Result? Example: The growth of Sengenta (little Monsanto) and subsequent sale to the ChiCom Government. Prior to that, they bought the best breeders from the dominant Ag research universities and made entangled deals with the universities and then the Swiss owned company sold to the Chinese Government for 13 billion dollars. Not good outcome in the future.
Claims against a deep pocketed defendant. Hardly news.
Roundup and most toxic ag chemicals are designed to decompose quickly under sunlight.
On the container is a warning suggesting to use mask when applying.
It is a great product and one of the few which can deal with thistle type weeds.

We used Round-Up for 23+yrs at the nursery and on customers’ properties, and I’ve never heard of a single case of cancer.
Unless maybe you drink a glass of it for lunch each day.
As with any chemical, personal protections - long sleeves, gloves, eye and face protection etc - are in order when you use it.

Still probably expensive, but very cool. I much prefer that chemicals like Round-Up NOT be used on what I eat, but I also don’t want people hungry because it gets banned needlessly, and without alternative options.
