Reports: Plane crashes shortly after takeoff in Cuba

LA HABANA, CUBA —
There are social media reports that a Boeing 737 crashed shortly after takeoff from Jose Marti International Airport in Cuba.
Authorities have not confirmed the reports of a crash.

With Boeing trained mechanics as well as good pilot training, the flight cycle is near constantly met. Yet Cuba, I’d bet, is highly lacking in both.

Many people may know that there are lots of 50’s vintage Detroit Iron running around Cuba but most are probably not aware they have been re-powered with Soviet/ Russian power plants due to lack of real replacement parts.

I rode on one of those Cuban planes once. Might as well of had goats and chickens on board. They were using dry ice to cool the cabin. Was an old Russian plane. Doubt if they’ve upgraded since then.
