Birth rates keep falling for U.S. women

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. birth rates declined last year for women in their teens, 20s and — surprisingly — their 30s, leading to the fewest babies in 30 years, according to a government report released Thursday.

Experts said several factors may be combining to drive the declines, including shifting attitudes about motherhood and changing immigration patterns.

The provisional report, based on a review of more than 99 percent of the birth certificates filed nationwide, counted 3.853 million births last year. That's the lowest tally since 1987.

Births have been declining since 2014, but 2017 saw the greatest year-to-year drop — about 92,000 less than the previous year.

That was surprising, because baby booms often parallel economic booms, and last year was a period of low unemployment and a growing economy.

But other factors are likely at play, experts said.

One may be shifting attitudes about motherhood among millennials, who are in their prime child-bearing years right now. They may be more inclined to put off child-bearing or have fewer children, researchers said.

Another may be changes in the immigrant population, who generate nearly a quarter of the babies born in the U.S. each year. For example, Asians are making up a larger proportion of immigrants, and they have typically had fewer children than other immigrant groups.

If it weren't for immigration and the first-gen children of immigrants, our fertility rate would be as low as Japan. This means suicide.

The Sexual Revolution (which was not a bloodless revolution) was a revolution against normal sex. All of its aspects --- starting the big one, contraception --- militate against lasting marriage and robust family formation.

Now there's a generation in the schools who have been encouraged not to know whether they're boys or girls.

All of this is part of the Culture of Death.

I have had some health problems since birth that no one else I’m related to has.

That and being an unpaid and unappreciated babysitter for my sister, her brat friends, the brat kids of my parent’s friends for most of my youth turned me off the idea of being a parental unit.

Property taxes are a direct and intentional attack on families.

This is a big part of the problem. Near-universal adoption of contraception 50 years ago has triggered an economic restructuring predicated upon two-income households. Children are becoming a luxury affordable only to the rich, and to those who consciously accept the sacrifices to opt out of the mainstream economic paradigm. And of course, to the very poor, who sign over their lives and their children’s to the welfare state.

To the contracepting middle class: this is a prison you built for yourselves. This is why you will have no descendants.

Unpaid!! That's terrible.

The Eras and Replace agenda includes erasing one group, by encouraging abortion and small families, and replacing them with other groups by having open borders.

There's a lot of babies in my little town Good sign Meh inks the millennial is deathly afraid of committing to marriage No baby should be born outside marriage There's also couples who chose not to. Too much responsibility They get dogs 🐶 miñostly Finally there are poor souls that end up alone and never married at 40 something. Very sad life for them Of course the Mexicans here have like 7 kids and none are counted

Seen as being the one at fault no matter what while the darling brats were bowed to was the big thing. I was the defective screwed up kid. Anybody else was deemed better by half of the parental unit that was in charge.

Heaven forbid any of the little hellions were upset in any way. I would get chewed out.

I had a three wheeler growing up. Anytime brats were dumped with me, I had to ride them around all day. I was glad when it had a flat tire sometimes.

Describe how, in your view, marriage and fatherhood are a bad deal for men.

Whites are being disenfranchised by policies like affirmative action even though they are the majority.

Imagine the policies that will be instituted when Whites are a minority.

I had 3 sons. Yesterday marked the passing of the oldest on May 17, 2012. The other two are adults and out of the house. Now I’m headed to “geezer” status and you advocate punishing me with crappy taxes. Why?

I believe this is the result of a society that has been denigrating the family and the role of mothers for decades.

Aided by birth control, it’s every female for herself and often the lure of more luxuries and free time for herself outweighs the supposed rigors and sacrifices of raising children.

The problem with this is that when the birth rate declines so does the society as it cannot or will not replace itself. That is what happened in Europe and why the authorities continue to allow massive influx of immigrants.

“Tax policy should be favoring taxpayers with kids, not freeloaders and geezers.”

So you are lumping older folks in with freeloaders?

Inane comment.

Property taxes are a direct and intentional attack on families.

I agree it's a direct attack. Not sure about the intent. A lot of the damage I ascribe to greed and expedience, not malice. But it's a dang shame the cardinal rule of public policy isn't the same as it is in medicine: First, do no harm.

I’m lumping together welfare recipients. IOW: anyone drawing a check from Fedzilla that is not for goods and/or services rendered. Social security is just another welfare program. So yes, I’m lumping in geezers.

Because we aren't breeding enough taxpayers with the current, insane tax policy.

A non-answer when you can’t come up with an answer.
