The inspectors of the Central Investigation and Enforcement Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture prevented the smuggling of 5.5 tons of eggplant and zucchini vegetables from Gaza to Israel.
The suspect driver was taken for questioning, the truck was confiscated and the produce was transferred for destruction. ...

The key point here is that these vegetables were not going through approved channels. They were going to bypass all of that.
They were being smuggled...nobody does QC on smuggled product!
You’d be surprised how normal life goes on. I wasn’t here for the second intifada or the first, but I was here for the knife intifada, and it was mostly a big yawn, though the soldiers were seriously on edge, ready to rush at breakneck speed to any point where they saw a problem, guns at the ready at all times. But Arab traffic came and went like every day. Occasional random stops and searches was all, which is also every day.
But if it’s seized, you can simply do the QC checks. All in all, it was a shameful waste of zucchini and eggplant.
I guess they could have just sent it back and let them do what they will with it, but I suspect the handling of illicit goods simply goes down a different path.
It could be blind bureaucratic stupidity, but it might also be standard procedure. I don’t know enough about how they do that, especially over there.
I would guess that is human nature...life has to go on, and almost always does in some fashion.
It’s funny, though. They could have sold it in Ghaza, or maybe in Egypt. Instead they chose to sneak it into Israel, where they could get a better price. Yet they hate Israel and want to destroy it. So, I weep for good food, not its purveyors in this case.
What if the veggies were injected with potassium cyanide?
Take the veggies to the prison where they keep the Palis and prepare a banquet!
C'mon. If they had been, the ones who blew up the veggies would've let us know. It makes no sense to blow up vegetables, which give Palies a way to be involved in positive endeavors and to make a living.
And I can almost bet that these veggies were not destroyed. Someone is eating fresh produce
Did the driver have a “you can trust me” ID card
Or grown with human waste fertilizer
Ha! When my friend moved from Seattle to rural KY, he said the difference between the two areas was that in seattle you lock your car so it doesn’t get stolen. In KY you lock your car so it doesn’t get filled with a bunch of bags of tomatoes and squash.
I understood completely from your posts that was your inclination!
But destroying commerce so that everyones starving is something even Hamas wouldnt dare do.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Please understand that normally I would agree with you, but the recent demonstrations in North Gaza and elsewhere have placed border security on higher alert nationally. Perhaps things will return to abinormal once the celebrations and protests about placing the US Embassy in Jerusalem are over.
This would be a good time to by arable land to grow produce on the Israeli side of the border. Soon you would be able to name your price. Such are the vicissitudes of war and peace.
I was the ship’s assistant postal clerk. One of the sailors sent a big ass knife home in a package. Later he asked me why customs had seized it. Duh, was it declared on the custom’s form you filled out? Blank look in response.
Well duh! The Jooooooooos have allah da money!
Put down the zucchini, step away from the zucchini.
Do you remember the incredible luck US customs had with a container of grapes from Chile back when we were having trade issues with them? The found the one grape in an entire shipping container that had been injected with cyanide.
An amazing thing, a grape injected with cyanide in Chile, arrived in the US un-shriveled and un-blemished and just happened to be one customs inspected.
Chile decided to be reasonable and do what we wanted...
Is that a zucchini in your pants or are you just glad to see me?
