Dangerous for the elderly. My father couldn’t hear much of anything even with hearing aids his last few years. I took away his keys at 90.

The other bad thing is that apparently the man in this case did not have a carbon monoxide alarm in his house.

if you hit the button while your foot is on the brake it will not shut down
Mine (most?) requires your foot to be on the brake to start or shut down.

Are you married? Have your wife assemble a big purse and drop the keys in along with all of her other stuff. Shake the purse up a bit and then watch her spend 10 minutes trying to find the keys in her purse.

Or stick the keys in your pocket, then stick all the other things people carry in their pockets on top of them. Have fun taking all that stuff out to get to your keys.

Or with keyless you could just walk up to the secured car, pull the handle, get in, press a button and drive away. No digging for keys.

0-60 in less than 7.4 seconds is enough for me. and while your sitting at the gas pumps with your wallet out , Ill cruise by because 30 mpg /4 doors/ a quiet ride is all I need. Drove 75-80 Mph last year 32 MPG and when I got there 8 hours later and, my ears weren't ringing, my backside didn't hurt and my wallet still had dinner money in it. And mom can easily get in and out of the back seat.

“What kind of idiot parks a car, ANY car, without making sure it is shut down”

Well, if you owned such a car you’d know that they are very quiet and some even shut off for a brief period.

I have BMW’s that shutoff when I stop, but they come on as needed, such as when I press the accelerator pedal or when the car detects the A/C needs charged.

If I press the off button, it does turn off, but the car looks off when it simply stops the engine.

So, no, it doesn’t take an idiot. It takes an idiot not to understand these things.

Ummm, no. If your car does that it’s broken or they need to reprogram it. After the Toyota uncommanded acceleration debacle, ALL keyless go systems had that added - and many already had it.

“because 30 mpg /4 doors/ a quiet ride is all I need.”

That and rocking chairs and a nurse to change your diaper. Got it. You’re old and have had a life without any thrills or fun.

Except even with the stop-start systems you can easily tell the car is shut off - the dashboard shuts down when you turn the car off. If you’re in stop-start mode the dashboard stays live and illuminated.

The programmer does not possess lots of common sense.

I created software for use by engineers for 25 years and in every program I built in checks to make sure the input was logical. Result was amazing success in using the programs and extremely few input errors. But that takes lot of extra effort.

With the 6 speed gearbox, I actually get about 28MPG on the highway.

Was just playing with ya. I’ll often pull alongside a Challenger and motion the driver to roll down the windows.

Hey man, that got a Hemi?

Yeah.

That’s cute.

Then they tear off the line and I never had any intention of racing them.

Cars and car people are fun things.

My daily driver does 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, gets 36mpg at 75mph and runs on regular. Doesn’t quite have four doors but the manufacturer made it so the damn thing is quiet enough to stalk pedestrians with.

This type f idiot right here. If I attempted to leave wth the keys and car running my car would start emitting the annoying security beep. But first off, you have to be a completely vacant person to forget to turn off your car, beyond all the warning lights and noises you have to ignore. I’m thinking if someone is capable of doing thiis, they are a Darwin Award candidate to begin with and sure as Hell are better off (for all of us) not on the roads.

Of course, seeing the stuff that goes on on the road, there’s more than a few of them out there.

Those that aren’t kvetching about not having a hand crank option on a new car, anyway. :P
