... Democrats really need a great 2018 midterm, both to avoid an almost irreversible disadvantage in the Senate, and to give it a fighting chance to do well during the momentous redistricting cycle just on the horizon. For reasons that have almost nothing to do with her leadership abilities and other sterling qualities, a President Clinton would have made a great 2018 midterm for her party extremely unlikely, and a debilitating defeat quite possible. (The same would have been true, to be clear, with a President Sanders or a President Biden). A President Trump could make an inevitably bad midterm for his party really bad.
So for Democrats and for others horrified by the 2016 results, there was a silver lining to the dark, dark clouds surrounding the countrys future when Trump was elected. If during the Trump presidency we can avoid war, economic calamity, systemic government-backed racial or ethnic discrimination, or a sickening slide into authoritarianism, then in the long run his election might be good for his opponents. If the 2018 results undermine his currently solid support within the GOP, there could even be a bonus.

Get over it, Hillary will never be President.
The only “authoritarianism” that I see, is coming from the left.
Inevitable just like Hillary's victory was ???
The paradigm is :
Win White House
Lose Midterms
Win Re-election
Its based on the Backlash effect, typically fueled by overreach.
Worked with Obama
In my opinion, the mid-terms are going to be surprisingly bad for the Democrats.
It would look a lot like that phony movie Disney made of the lemmings committing mass suicide. Thanks Oldeconomybuyer.
Hillary will never be president especially after she lost a good chunk of white men who voted for Obama.
If during the Trump presidency we can avoid war, economic calamity, systemic government-backed racial or ethnic discrimination, or a sickening slide into authoritarianism, then in the long run his election might be good for his opponents.
IOW, the author of the piece is just another sack of slime partisan media shill..
Well, she didnt win.
Oy. These people are sick in the head.
Imagine sitting back around 1995 as Hillary and getting hyped up by sixty people at a dinner party....that she would one day be President. Every single day of the past twenty years....thinking that over and over. Watching that ‘ship’ sink in 2008 to a nobody senator from Illinois. And then watching Bernie almost seize it from you. Finally, watching Trump win? It has to be a serious problem for her to get over.
Clearly, which explains her very public breakdown over it.
Is Mr. Kilgore writing this from Colorado, if you get my drift?
But you know....if she and her people had planned well in Iowa in 2007...she would have had an edge over Obama. So many mistakes that spring of 2008 with her team. She would have been elected President, and Obama would have gone back to the Senate to sit there and wait until 2016.
Gee, I’m more interested in what they would look like if Gary Johnson or Jill Stein had won. Or that “Rent is too damn high” guy. Or the GEICO gekko, or....
These guys get more and more pathetic every day.
Prior to Obama, Democrats still had enough loyalty to the Constitution to stay within the lines, within reason.
Obama's team fundamentally changed what it meant to swear an oath, whether it was to the Constitution, to the Congress, to the courts, and to the people.

“If”...such a big word for just two letters...
Entire article is just another for the file marked “If wishes were fishes, we could all have a fry.”
If we lose in 2016, we will do well in 2018.
We did well in 2010 and what good did it do us?
