PHOENIX - Craft beer is a $1 billion industry in Arizona, but a warmer environment has many in the industry worried about its future.
The business owners who run craft beer businesses were concerned about future water shortages and even the flavor of a key beer ingredient: Hops.
Professor Paul Hirt, an environmental history teacher at Arizona State University and a Salt River Project board member, said climate change affects the taste of beer through hops.
Hotter summers are creating more of the bitter profile that brewers are not looking for, Hirt said.
Hirt added the battle is over high temperatures, growing hops and creating popular beer flavors that consumers want.
Hirt also is a critic of the Trump administrations approach to climate change.
We have all kinds of federal agencies that are being told dont admit we have a problem, dont admit we have challenges to face. This is not how we solve problems, Hirt said.

>>Is the possible destruction of our beer the most emotionally fearful manipulation the Loony Left can fabricate?<<
Next up: MJ won’t grow in “the future.” Leftist panic goes up exponentially. Pot shops in pot-legal sates overrun. Doritos and Cheetos unavailable on store shelves — black market opens up.
Oh no! Not the “craft beer”! We’re doomed! Save us Algore!
I was in grade school at that time and I remember doing a report on air pollution and pollution in general. At there time there was public hysteria, fomented by the left, that air pollution and pollution in general was, with absolute certainty, going to kill us all by destroying the planet.
I mean there were pollution reports in the media every single day! And of course, as we all know, and I’m sure just coincidentally, the EPA was created in December 1970.
Why not?
Maybe NOW they will listen to us! /s
No, but I’m sure leftists will.
Any competent brewer will tell you the modern IPAs, Doubles and Triples are crap. Cloudy crap.
And require absolutely no skill to make.
They are a disgrace to the brewery profession.
If one cannot brew a clear beer, they need to find a job they can do competently.
And if one needs over 40 IBUs to cover the taste of rubber and bananas, you’re a hack.
“Crappy brewing is what is making bad beer.”
Correct.
And that’s AT LEAST 4 out of 5 of the “Craft Brewers” on the market today.
A fancy name a cool label on a bottle of piss.
My favorite is Long Trail Double Bag Ale and an occasional Weihenstephaner Korbinian for a smoother less hoppy taste.
I like Clown Shoes Brewing Company.
They put out a good product at a good price point.
You should try this.
Nice try, losers.
I guess the desperation can never get too silly.
Climate change? Taste of beer? How bout lipstick? Let's dump the sexism, shall we?
Climate change will get us all.
Go back and dream up another childish reason for us normals to go hide in the closet, or to let the insane continue to waste oxygen...
WINNER of the dumbest article of the month!
Really? Do tell...
Global Warming on Free Republic here, here and here
I call BS. 75+% of U.S. grown hops are grown right here in my backyard of the Yakima Valley in Washington state. We haven’t had abnormal weather. It’s always HOT here during the summer growing season.
Yep AND climate change makes french fries taste bad too...
I was still shoveling off the heat on my driveway last week.
