EXCLUSIVE — Research: Google Search Manipulation Can Swing Nearly 80 Percent of Undecided Voters

By inserting negative search suggestions under the name of a candidate, search engines like Google can shift the opinions of undecided voters by up to 43.4 percent, according to new research by a team at the American Institute for Behavioral Research and Technology and reported exclusively by Breitbart News. The lead author of the study, Dr. Robert Epstein, has previously conducted research into what he calls the Search Engine Manipulation Effect (SEME). This research showed that the manipulation of results pages in search engines can shift the voting preferences of undecideds by anywhere between 20 and 80 percent, depending on the demographic.

His latest research looks at how search engines can affect voters by suggesting negative or positive search terms when a political candidate’s name is entered into the search bar. Dr. Epstein’s research found that when negative search terms are suggested for a candidate, it can have a dramatic effect on voter opinion.

This is one reason I DETEST Google.

They manipulate searches in all kinds of ways, and the vast majority of people who use it are either unaware or unconcerned that searches are being manipulated.

I see it ALL THE TIME. I do use Google, but temper EVERYTHING I see with the caveat that Google is likely trying to show me what THEY want me to see, and hoping I won’t understand that distinction, and how important it is.

Believable. Just engage the average American voter in conversation and have them demonstrate their idiot-level IQ.

If only we invested ONE WEEK in the study and application of logic in rhetoric, most of this could have been avoided.

Americans are that stupid? That’s why only taxpayers and not welfare junkies should be allowed to vote. What did Romney say, the 47% live on welfare. What right do they have to decide on budget makers? The Founders had no idea of a welfare system!

Many times the material being sought is on page 2 or 3 of the results.

Perhaps that’s part of the reason for our election performance over the past year?

Exactly. Very clever on their part, but I figured that out early on.

Scum.

Sadly, I have come to conclude that the old “Jaywalking” episodes by Jay Leno where he would go out on the street and ask various questions from passerby such as “Who is Thomas Jefferson” produced a disturbing variety of answers from seemingly normal and average people.

Now, full disclosure, if someone gets ME at the wrong time, I may not be able to pull up some random and obvious (usually) fact...getting older has made it almost humorous for me, while frustrating. I thought that if Jay Leno ever got ME at the wrong time, I would be a fool on television or the Internet.

My neighbor and I have come up with a solution. I will recall one word, and she will come up with the other. Yesterday, it was "compost bin". ;)

If you want to freak out your Google search engine, just type ‘duck duck go’ into the search bar.

Google is EVIL.

I Bing. Microsoft (while generally liberal) is less politically evil.

I tried using Duck Duck-Go, but...it simply does not perform for me. With Google, I can take their evil into account, scrape it off the top, and try to find what I need. I could simply never get what I needed from Duck Duck-Go.

I despise Google. I have to use it and all its applications for work. It made me swear an oath aloud earlier this morning.

It's like going to Ask.com and typing in "What ever happened to Jeeves?"
