The father of the man cops believe gunned down four people at a Waffle House restaurant in Tennessee may also face charges for returning guns that were seized from his son last year after an incident at the White House, according to a federal official.
In a news conference Monday about the capture of Travis Reinking, 29, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Special Agent Marcus Watson said Jeffrey Reinking may have broken the law when he returned the weapons to his son.

The police specifically told him that he could not return the weapons to his son, and he said he understood and agreed.
Here we go again, another person who was tagged by authorities that should not have had weapons.
Yep....horrible the man should face charges.
As much as we revere our right to own firearms, we need to recognize that there are some people who are simply not fit to do so. And in the case of the mentally ill, yes, it needs to be a crime to give them guns when told not to.
Define mental illness.
Well, there’s Travis Reinking for openers! And his father is an accessory to the murders his son committed and should be serving a very long sentence.
So? A cop can't instruct you to do anything that's not required by law. The article says there is no Illinois law the transfer violated. A review of the Federal statute does not indicate that it was violated either. I'd love to see this dad charged but I don't know of any crime to charge him with.
Votes for Democrats.
Got to also remember too that the father was TOLD not to give back the guns to his son after the incident in the area of the White House just last year.
The problem comes when a family member gives someone a gun to someone when they should not have a gun and there was NOT a prior incident.
BTTT!
If he’s too mentally ill to own a gun, then he’s too mentally ill to walk the streets.
Even without a gun, he could have killed even more people by ramming the place with a rented truck, or by tossing in a 5-gallon bucket filled with gasoline, followed by a road flare.
Despite the legalities, it was just a damned irresponsible thing to do. We all pay the price for that small minority of gun owners who are totally irresponsible.
The problem with using a broadstroke “mental illness” designation means that politicians, unelected bureaucrats, and leftist “medical professionals” are allowed to define it.
We have to be very careful with the language we use, because it can be used against us in the future. Fair political winds in the near term do not predict smooth sailing in the future.
Thanks for that information.
***The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said that it did not appear that Reinking or his father violated any state firearms laws before the deadly shooting.
Proving once again that no matter what gun control laws you enact, someone will break them.
The NRA gives this advise for such situations
First things first, if you have reasonable cause to believe the person youre gifting a firearm to is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition, or that the person will use the firearm in a crime, you are committing a felony. Dont do this.
