The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted in favor of Mike Pompeo's nomination for Secretary of State 11-9-1 on Monday, thanks to Sen. Rand Paul who flipped from opposing to supporting his nomination.
Why it matters: At one point, it appeared that Pompeo did not have the votes for a favorable recommendation from the committee, which would have marked the first time in nearly 100 years they voted against a Secretary of State nominee. But with the endorsement in tact, Pompeo's nomination is now headed to the Senate floor for a full vote, where Majority Leader Mitch McConnell ensured a smooth approval.

Good.
Mark Levin was on fire today about this ridiculous obstruction against Pompeo’s confirmation. He lambasted the Democratic party for their unabashed support for a murderer (Kennedy), rapist (Clinton), and a friend of domestic terrorists (Obama) and yet a man with Pompeo’s sterling credentials somehow is deemed unacceptable?

The good Senator knows how to maximize his position within the party and, at the same time, garnish the camera time as a player.

Yeah, I read some comment by Diane Feinstein, saying something to the effect that he was okay as CIA director but that the Secretary of State role required more diplomacy than Pompeo exhibited.
Or some such nonsense.

Axios gave the numbers but didn't provide details. From MSN:
The committee approved Pompeo's nomination on a party-line vote, with all 11 Republicans backing him, nine Democrats opposed and one Democrat, Chris Coons, voting "present" because of Senate procedural rules.

In praise I will start calling Rand Paul our “last minute rescuer”.
I never really got why he initially was opposed to Pompeo.
