The top executive of a Southern California private charter airline says the Golden States hostile business environment propelled his companys decision to relocate to Texas.
Not being viewed as an enemy, but being viewed as an asset is so refreshing, said Alex Wilcox, Chief Executive Officer of JetSuite Inc. He described the air carriers decision to move to North Texas this summer as a welcome change.
He shared a glaring example of one difference between California and business-friendly Texas. I tried to start flying out of Santa Monica, California. And they sued me because I was trying to bring a service to the city, said Wilcox. When I got to Dallas, literally, people in City Hall were like, How can we help you?
Wilcox anticipates 60 employees will move with top brass to Texas and they will fill 180-200 jobs with Texans.
Wilcox said other selling points Texas offered included lower costs and a larger aviation infrastructure which exists because of the Dallas-based Southwest Airlines and Fort Worth-based American Airlines.
The boutique charter airline allows travelers to rent a private, small jet. Currently, their daily flights only cover select California cities and Las Vegas, Nevada. JetSuite intends to expand its destinations. The CEO also has high hopes for the other side of their business, JetSuiteX, where individuals can purchase a seat on one of their charter flights to avoid the hassle of larger airports. One-way ticket fares start at $129.
The company plans to grow its consumer reach with a fleet of regional small jets to 100. Wilcox told the Business Journal that JetSuite revenues range between $55 million and $60 million while JetSuiteX accounts for $50 million in earnings.

Thanks!
If they are talking to the Dallas city council, they are probably looking at Red Bird. Although they might get a good deal on the old NAS facility in ‘as-is’ condition.
They haven’t started forcing gringos off their land yet to give it away ... oh, wait, some want to make people keep folks in their back yards ... and of course then they’ll apply the strict rules that make evictions so difficult.
Well, I guess “yet” still applies.
I believe they said they were locating in the North Dallas area. I’m trying to get a contact at the company via LinkedIn and will find out.
My bad, it just says north Texas.
If I was them, I’d headquarter in Frisco and put my operations at Sherman. Huge, almost completely empty airport.
If they are looking to generate local traffic, Addison is probably the best location. Be interesting to see where they end up.
He’s still around? I can remember him protesting, accusing etc. back in the 80s.
Ive been warning them for years but they just keep hollering.....Texas!
Itll happen eventually. Theyre too close to Mexico and theyll turn a state in a heartbeat.
California really thought they could keep airplanes from leaving?
When will California start charging an exit tax?
Agree. Frisco, Allen or McKinney would be great choices.
“I hope the owner doesnt bring a bunch of libs with him into Texas.”
Aviation people tend to be among the most conservative folks you will ever meet (except the FA’s). Our hobby/job can kill us in an instant if we are not constantly being responsible.
Austin...is already there.
I flew last summer and JetSuiteX is the best. But the looters here don’t want anyone to make money here unless they get a cut. JetsuiteX cuts out TSA and big airport fees. Santa Monica would be a great alternative to LAX but the communists that run the place don’t care. Too bad. With all of the new oil business in permian basin JSX is sure to clean up.
I saw that idea, and I thought: How in the Hell could that homeowner SELL their property in the future??? Who would buy something with a structure occupied by HOMELESS persons attached to it???
Feel good story, that is probably in the range of six million dollars yearly tax revenue that Capt. Cueball Jerry Brown will not get his grimey blood soaked hands on to piss away.
“Santa Monica would be a great alternative to LAX but the communists that run the place dont care”
It takes a lot of money to run a Socialist Utopia, probably why the Santa Monica Sales tax rate is 10.25%, yep you read that right.
When Americans refuse HiTech jobs in Blue areas, does that provide the excuse for more H1B ?
That’s precisely what I was thinking.
I will assume that the lady at your work made the choice to leave California and move to Texas? The difference maybe that these workers coming from California will be glad to have left with their jobs going with them. These workers will know that California practically forced them to move and not look back fondly at California.
At least I hope so.
