I read a discussion the other day about airline pilots don’t really have to do real flying these days. With all the technology people say it doesn’t take a real pilot any more and standards for pilots could be lowered, specifically lowering the level of experience required to be hired.
This pilot did some real flying, and saved many lives. We should not be so quick to think technology is the answer to everything. Skill is still very necessary in many jobs, we need to always keep that in mind, our lives may depend on that reality.
Yep, true pro.
Good job. No, off the charts job. From preliminary reports I thought the engine had fallen off. She saved lots of lives.Very sad regarding woman who perished.
She is a fine lady and a good pilot. But I have a couple of points:
1. Why is the work of the other pilot in the cockpit not mentioned at all?
2. I can’t see her really as a hero. She did a fine job but she did what she was paid to do — follow emergency procedures she was trained on.
There is a kind of weak bigotry here in remarking on her calmness. Was she supposed to squeal and panic because she’s a female?
Text book landing in an air emergency. This extremely capable airman, the female Southwest Airlines, Captain, followed the emergency operations rules book to a “tee”. God bless her and all the air traffic control professionals that assisted her landing.
Thank you Captain.....you are truly a professional airman from top to bottom, inside & outside!!! Those of us in the Aviation industry call you “Hero” and we are maximum proud of you actions and performance under severe operating distress.
Remarkable pilot....proud of her. Prayers for the Wells Fargo exec who was “partially” sucked out of the plane and the passengers who saw it. You can leave the rest to your imagination.
Cindy Foster, who went to college with her, told the Kansas City Star that Shults was also among the first women to fly an F/A-18 Hornet for the Navy. Foster told the Kansas City Star that Shults knew she had to work harder than everyone else. She did it for herself and all women fighting for a chance. Foster said. So, how is it that the same press could not find a single classmate or student of Barry Hussein Soetoro in 9 or 10 YEARS?
Last thought: This FR article should be disseminated far and wide to show what us men truly think of such an extraordinary women. She should be the role model for all girls/women and not some Karcrapian or other trampy celebrity. It would be an honor just to shake her hand. I wouldn’t walk across the street to say hello to Cher.
SouthWest has a long history of heavily recruiting former military pilots. Many years ago, other airlines judged whether or not an airport needed to be shut down for weather based on if SouthWest was still flying in. It also says something that this is the first fatality for SouthWest.
That’s the way the Navy trains them.
KUDUS to this pilot!
We should all be as fortunate as to have a pilot like her in the cockpit.
Southwest is a great airline - voted in 1 of the 10 best in the world, by the public, and the ONLY one in the USA.
Today, another Southwest was taken down - but safely - after a bird strike.
But this all has me a bit on edge, as my SIL, who just retired from the Coast Guard (flew the C-130’s - and before that the P-3 for the Navy and as an instructor for the Royal Canadian Air Force - Orions.
Also, as a side job while stationed in Kodiak, flew for the bush pilots outfit on Kodiak that did the series on Bush Pilots.
Today, he’s with a team from Southwest, inspecting the damaged engine on that Southwest flight - as a new Southwest pilot in training - he is the kind of pilot. like this gal, - cool, calm under pressure.
But I am a not as calm, mom-in-law...
Go Navy!
It seems the media believes most girls would just go into hysterics or something like that. The media is apparently sexist?
She has a job, she does it, thats what a normal person does.
Ping
We haven’t gotten around to seeing, ‘Sully’ but I rented it for later this week.
Maybe we should wait for the, ‘Tammie’ movie instead? LOL!
Our local Talk Radio was playing audio clips of how things unfolded; she was cool as a cucumber! The guy on the GROUND sounded pretty rattled! ;)
God Bless you Captain Shults and GO NAVY!
